As Rohde & Schwarz USA accelerates its growth across the U.S., we're looking for a visionary Senior Engineering Manager to lead the next phase of expansion for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) in North America. In this role, you'll guide the development of high-impact products within our Technology Systems Portfolio, turning complex engineering challenges into real-world solutions. We're seeking a hands-on technical leader who doesn't just manage projects, but cultivates talent, builds engineering culture, and inspires the team to push boundaries. This position is based in our Columbia, Maryland office. We operate in a hybrid work environment requiring team members to be in-office 3 days per week.

Your tasks

  • Lead, mentor, and scale an interdisciplinary R&D team
  • Foster a high-performance culture that encourages innovation, technical excellence, and customer centricity
  • Partner with product management, technology strategists, North American sales organization, and global product teams to align product development roadmaps with market requirements
  • Lead initial scoping of project resource requirements and planning for ATL team
  • Drive performance management through regular reviews, feedback, and individualized career development plans
  • Identify, assess, and resolve talent and capability gaps through forward-looking resource planning
  • Oversee product lifecycle from concept and prototyping to production readiness
  • Establish clear organizational objectives and metrics, track milestone progress, and provide transparent reporting to key stakeholders
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines to ensure commitments are met
  • Ensure development processes are aligned with Corporate R&D standards and processes

Your qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 5+ years leading development teams
  • Extensive hands-on experience in one or more relevant domains, including secure comms, SIGINT, spectrum management, RF sensing, AI, software architecture and automation.
  • Demonstrated success building, mentoring, and scaling high-performing teams while delivering complex, dynamic development projects
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear insights for stakeholders, customers, and cross-functional partners
  • Working knowledge of modern R&D workflows including risk-driven development, agile methodologies, and PLM systems
  • Must be U.S. Persons able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

The total compensation for this position is $170K-$250K. Total compensation includes base salary, variable pay (when applicable) plus benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
