Senior Engineering Technician Opportunity

Tallahassee State College (TSC), recently recognized as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges for 2025, is excited to announce a full-time opportunity for the position of Senior Engineering Technician - P00705 with the Facilities Department.

What You'll Do

The Senior Engineering Technician performs inspection, testing, and services activities in variety of plant operation areas including but not limited to fire alarm, safety, building automation, electrical, HVAC, electronics, plumbing and carpentry. Key member of Facilities Asset Management Team. TSC's Exposure Control Plan (ECP) governs the College's compliance with OSHA standards and is applicable to all employees who have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.  The College has identified this position as having occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.  At-risk employees, where occupational exposure is reasonably anticipated, will be offered the HBV vaccination at no cost.

Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for:

  • Inspects, monitors, repairs fire alarm/life safety equipment. Including, but not limited to: Conduct building inspections for compliance with fire codes. Recommend changes to the design, installation, and modification of fire detection and signaling systems. Accompany State Fire Marshall and other officials during scheduled and surprise inspections of College property. Respond to fire and smoke emergencies, and ensures the safety of employees, students and visitors. Investigate fire and smoke mishaps, and reports on these to proper officials. Perform general maintenance work as needed.

  • Utilizing the AiM's facility work request procedure system to identify and enter Corrective Maintenance issues, complete Preventative and Corrective Maintenance work orders, document material usage and man hours expended.

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs vehicles including tractors, fork lifts, boom lifts, loaders, large trucks and motorized carts.

  • Reviews construction plans to ensure compliance with the existing systems and for any future upgrades. Performs all Arc Flash Calculations and High Voltage work.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Graduation from a standard high school or equivalency diploma.

  • Four (4) years of experience maintaining/installing/inspecting fire alarms, life safety equipment, electrical systems and plumbing systems.

  • An associate's degree and two (2) years' experience are preferred.

  • NICET Certification Level ll or above is preferred.

  • Must possess a current valid driver's license.
