General Description:

The Senior Environmental Specialist, Multimedia (water, waste, and chemical management) must have a working knowledge of the federal (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)) and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) regulations for solid waste, hazardous waste, and universal waste, and Department of Transportation regulations for hazardous materials. In addition, must have working knowledge of Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System regulations.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing the CP2 LNG water management program. This includes, monitoring water quality and agency reporting, SPCC and SWPPP implementation, managing wastewater discharge, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and training site personnel on water management practices. Waste responsibilities include, but are not limited to, making waste determinations, ensuring wastes and used oil are properly managed onsite, scheduling waste transfers, fulfilling required recordkeeping, and ensuring compliance with applicable federal and Louisiana regulations.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Make regulatory waste determinations and prepare waste profiles for all wastes generated at the CP2 site, including obtaining representative samples and laboratory analysis, as needed.
  • Ensure satellite and central accumulation areas for hazardous wastes are managed in compliance with RCRA and LDEQ regulations.
  • Ensure used oil is managed in compliance with RCRA and LDEQ regulations.
  • Ensure solid waste is managed in compliance with LDEQ regulations.
  • Conduct inspections of all waste management areas at the facility including contractor-generated waste management activities.
  • Schedule off-site transfers of wastes and used oil including preparing uniform hazardous waste manifests, DOT hazardous materials shipping papers, and other required waste management documents.
  • Prepare required reports and other documents to LDEQ and USEPA.
  • Maintain records required to demonstrate compliance with applicable waste management regulations.
  • Assist in implementation of the hazardous waste contingency plan and the waste minimization plan.
  • Prepare and provide appropriate training to all staff with responsibilities for waste management at Plaquemines LNG.
  • Assist the Environmental Manager with meetings and other interactions with LDEQ, USEPA, LDH and other regulatory agencies.
  • Research federal and LDEQ regulatory requirements, as needed.
  • Conduct internal audits of waste management activities.
  • Conduct water sampling for stormwater and wastewater, as required.
  • Fulfill required recordkeeping and reporting requirements, including DMRs.
  • Implement, update and maintain facility SPCC.
  • Implement, update and maintain facility SWPPP.
  • Conduct inspections of all water management systems and infrastructure at the facility including permit and plan requirements
  • Conduct internal audits of water management activities.
  • Conduct potable water sampling.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certifications: Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental science or similar education.
  • Experience: 8+ years in industrial facilities as a water/waste environmental professional
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, LDEQ hazardous waste regulations.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in hot and humid environments, outdoors and lift 50 pounds.
  • Computer knowledge including Apple Mac, Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Project & PowerPoint.

Work Conditions:

  • Job is performed in an industrial plant environment.
  • Limited travel.
  • Subject to drug & alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Venture Global LNG.
