Are you a passionate leader with the desire to disrupt current health and safety practices and driven to reduce the risks associated with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) through a practical, business focused approach? We are expanding our team and looking for talented Senior Ergonomists to support our North American businesses. In this role, you will provide technical ergonomics expertise by applying scientific techniques, standardized assessments, and problem-solving skills to drive innovative solutions that reduce MSD risk factors and optimize performance. You will work collaboratively with partners in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), Operations, and Engineering to develop interventions that are fit for purpose and effective. This includes working closely with other ergonomists who work in the field and who are integrated with our industrial design and engineering teams. This role requires innovation, willingness to think outside of the traditional paradigm, and exceling at devising practical solutions to prevent MSDs. This role requires travel up to 40% of time.

Key job responsibilities

As Sr. Ergonomist, you will manage MSD risk in the NA Customer Fulfillment and Transportation organization. Delivering standard and unique changes to the current operations network targeting MSD risk, while driving risk reduction through network changes.

• Use a variety of ergonomic tools and methods to assess and quantify risk both pre and post intervention

• Use data analysis and assessment to provide design driven, practical recommendations and actions

• Initiate, formulate, and develop multi-disciplinary/multi-stakeholder projects that reduce musculoskeletal disorder risk factors and enhance human performance

• Execute a systems approach that considers the broader context of the human in the environment

• Research and collect background and historical multi-source information specific to topical areas using both internal data sources as well as with being actively aware of external trends

• Use data to facilitate and drive business decisions.

• Identify key trends through deep dive analysis and establish testable project hypotheses

• Develop or implement research, investigation, or analysis protocols.

• Work across multiple teams such as operations, technology designers and engineers to analyze and evaluate data, conduct evaluations, and generate concepts, design specifications, and usability goals

• Document analyses, recommendations, and results in white papers

• Stay current on trends in technology, industry, and legislation that could necessitate adjustments or provide improvement to our ergonomic programs, and initiatives.

A day in the life

Identify, communicate, and mitigate risk factors through partnership and innovative design changes to physical systems and processes within the existing fulfillment and transportation networks. You will foster collaboration and communication among team members, BU leaders, stakeholders, and deployment partners to ensure alignment and transparency throughout project lifecycles. Continuously improve human centric processes for optimized performance and associate experience based on lessons learned and feedback from network partners. You will work with experts across the ergonomics domain to cultivate a culture of innovation, adaptability, and accountability within the team to tackle challenges and seize opportunities effectively. Uphold ethical standards, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance in all project activities, prioritizing the well-being of our associates.

About the team

North American Ergonomics Engineering team is the tip of the spear for MSD risk factor management within Amazons current operational facilities. As Part of the Global Ergonomics Team the North American Ergonomics Engineering Team advocates for and innovates on behalf of our associates. We do this by collecting data from real-world scenarios, conducting science-based musculoskeletal risk assessments, providing practical advice, and developing interventions to optimize the work environment for human capability and safe system performance. We are responsible for supporting MSD risk reduction in existing sites across Core Fulfillment, Specialty Fulfillment, and Transportation.
