Senior HVAC Estimator

 

Position Summary

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Estimator to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated professional who is looking to advance their career, contribute innovative ideas, and play a key role in the preconstruction and estimating process.

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for developing detailed project estimates, budgets, and proposals for commercial HVAC projects. This individual will work closely with leadership, project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and customers to ensure accurate project pricing and successful project execution.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support all phases of the estimating, bidding, vendor review, subcontractor review, and purchasing processes.
  • Partner with company leadership to evaluate bid opportunities and determine bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Assist in assigning estimating responsibilities based on project requirements, workload, and team expertise.
  • Mentor, train, and provide guidance to junior estimators and estimating staff.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC equipment and systems, including hydronic and air-side systems.
  • Develop conceptual budgets from project narratives during schematic design and design development phases.
  • Prepare detailed estimates through construction document completion.
  • Develop bid packages and scopes of work for subcontractors.
  • Evaluate subcontractor proposals and participate in contract award recommendations.
  • Review and finalize project proposals, budgets, and submittals.
  • Provide technical support and estimating expertise to project managers and leadership.
  • Coordinate equipment selection, pricing, controls, and associated services for projects.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Assist in developing project schedules and preconstruction plans.
  • Identify scope gaps, resolve deviations, and provide value-engineering solutions when appropriate.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions and gather project information.
  • Collaborate with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, engineers, and internal teams to develop project solutions.
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and performance management of estimating staff.
  • Assist in managing overall preconstruction efforts and departmental objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of experience in the HVAC industry, with significant estimating experience.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, equipment, and construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience performing HVAC system takeoffs, budgeting, and detailed cost estimating.
  • Understanding of HVAC design principles, system applications, and construction methodologies.
  • Experience reviewing subcontractor proposals and negotiating scopes of work.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team development skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial mechanical contracting projects.
  • Leadership experience within an estimating or preconstruction team.
  • Knowledge of contract review, procurement processes, and project scheduling.
  • Experience working closely with project management and operations teams.
