Senior Estimator – Design-Build Bridge & Highway

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead the pursuit of complex design-build bridge and highway projects. This individual will be responsible for preparing competitive estimates, evaluating risk, collaborating with operations and design partners, and helping secure major transportation infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected heavy civil contractor with a strong backlog of DOT and alternative delivery projects.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete cost estimates for design-build bridge and highway projects.
• Analyze plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents.
• Develop quantity takeoffs, pricing, subcontractor scopes, and bid packages.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Participate in design-build pursuits, proposal development, and technical reviews.
• Identify project risks and value engineering opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers, operations, engineering teams, and design partners.
• Present estimates to executive leadership and assist during bid reviews.
• Support estimating process improvements and mentor junior estimators as needed.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
• Demonstrated experience estimating design-build bridge and highway projects.
• Strong understanding of DOT specifications, roadway construction, bridge structures, grading, drainage, and utilities.
• Experience with conceptual estimating and alternative delivery procurement.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win, AGTEK, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Experience leading estimates exceeding $50M.
• Knowledge of scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
• Experience participating in shortlist interviews and proposal presentations.
