Senior Estimator - Heavy Highway

We are seeking an experienced estimator to join our team and help deliver accurate, competitive, and well-supported project pricing for complex infrastructure work. This role is responsible for preparing detailed estimates, evaluating project documents, coordinating with internal teams and subcontractors, and supporting successful pursuit of heavy civil construction opportunities. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, a thorough understanding of field operations, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for heavy civil and highway construction projects.
• Review plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to identify scope, risks, opportunities, and pricing considerations.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed pricing for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other project costs.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, field operations, and subcontractors to gather input and validate assumptions.
• Solicit and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to support competitive bid proposals.
• Evaluate construction methods, productivity assumptions, schedule impacts, and site conditions affecting project cost.
• Prepare bid summaries, scope reviews, and estimate presentations for internal review and approval.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and alternates that improve competitiveness while maintaining quality and scope.
• Support bid submission activities and assist with post-bid clarification, negotiations, and handoff to operations as needed.
• Maintain organized estimate files, historical cost data, and documentation to support future pricing and lessons learned.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience estimating heavy highway, heavy civil, or infrastructure construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, production rates, material pricing, and subcontractor procurement.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, geotechnical information, and bid documents.
• Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and related construction technology tools.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with both internal teams and external partners.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a deadline-driven environment.
• Professional judgment, problem-solving ability, and a strong commitment to accuracy and integrity.

Preferred Experience

• Experience estimating large-scale highway, bridge, roadway, grading, utility, drainage, or site development work.
• Knowledge of public agency bidding processes and contract requirements.
• Familiarity with value engineering, risk assessment, and bid strategy development.
• Experience collaborating with operations teams during preconstruction and project turnover.
