    OVERVIEW: A Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing cost estimates in order to bid and secure public and private contracts. A Senior Estimator is responsible and accountable to the Chief Estimator and Senior Leadership.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Secure bid opportunities, bid documents, specifications and plans from potential clients.

    • Read and comprehend drawings, contract documents and specifications to properly prepare bid for submission.

    • Take off and quantify work items of roadway, drainage and site development work etc.

    • Secure and analyze material supplier cost quotes and subcontractor cost quotes.

    • Estimate cost of various items and prepare bid for submittal to prospective client.

    • Identify design issues through the estimating process

    • Develop and maintain a working relationship with the agency, owner or owner’s representative. Interface and respond to questions as needed.

    • Attend pre-bid and pre-construction meetings as needed.

    • Compile and update materials suppliers and subcontractor lists.

    • Assure compliance with MBE/DBE/SBE requirements of contract in bid process, including utilization plan preparation and required submission.

    • Study and be knowledgeable of all local ordinances and laws concerning construction and related activities to ensure laws are taken into consideration during the bidding process.

    • Conduct a continuous review of job cost to ensure competitiveness, marketability, and profit margins.

    • Identify and propose value-engineering alternatives

    • Ensure all staff and personnel are thoroughly familiar with procedures regarding the flow of paperwork and verify correctness as it relates to project’s bid.

    • Prepare estimate turnovers for project managers

    • Assist team in the preparation of field work orders, material purchase orders, and subcontracts.

    • Price change order work. Including preparing pricing, an itemized price support breakdown, submitting and managing the approval process as required.

    • Direct all staff personnel in the following areas: Using equipment in a safe and proper manner, improving job performance, controlling cost, quality work, increasing productivity, improving developing personnel and adhering to policies and procedures.

     

     

    Experience and Requirements:

    • The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ previous experience as a heavy civil estimator. 

    • Must have a valid Texas Drivers License clear of multiple and/or major violations.

    • Must be a productive team player and self-starter.

    • Communicates and works effectively with state and local agencies; inspectors; contractors; subcontractors; Company management and employees.

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Full understanding of Construction Math concepts.

    • Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public at all times.

    • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual

    • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
