Position Summary:
Purpose: The Senior Estimator serves as the primary technical specialist and Subject Matter Expert responsible for conducting complex, accurate cost estimation, time, materials, labor, and equipment quantification for commercial roofing projects. This role ensures the organization's bids are competitive, rigorously assessed for risk, and accurately scoped to maximize project profitability and successful completion. This role plays a critical part in both external and internal client relations, project management, and overall project consultancy to ensure client expectations are met and projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on target.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Estimation and Quantification: Assess and analyze project documents, blueprints, and plans to prepare precise cost estimates for commercial roofing systems, including managing take-offs from bid documents and field notes.
Cost Research and Sourcing: Conduct detailed research on current labor costs, material pricing, and production times, utilizing specialized software for data analysis and accurate forecasting. Solicit, compare, and analyze material quotes from manufacturers and suppliers to ensure competitive project pricing.
Risk and Profitability Analysis: Identify and thoroughly mitigate potential risks, uncertainties, and hidden costs in project bids and pricing strategies. Apply excellent understanding of project costing and profitability analysis to ensure estimates support profitable company growth.
Site Verification: Conduct roof surveys and travel to work sites as necessary to inspect existing materials, gather accurate data, and verify site conditions that impact project scope and cost.
Technical Communication and Presentation: Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, comprehensive reports, and bid packages. Present and technically explain estimates and scope limitations to clients and internal stakeholders, answering questions and addressing concerns regarding project costs.
Technology Mastery: Utilize and champion specialized estimator software, digital takeoff tools, and associated technologies for efficient measurement, analysis, and bid generation.
Technical Mentorship: Collaborate with and provide technical guidance to junior team members, advising on complex estimation problems and best practices.
Coordinate preconstruction handoff meetings to ensure information and communication flows efficiently and effectively to the opera
