    Job Description

    Senior Exploration Geologist

    Position Summary

The Senior Exploration Geologist owns the mine’s resource generation/conversion around satellite deposits and the existing pits, independently directing the advance of the Resource through Inferred to Indicated Resource via Reverse Circulation (RC) and diamond drilling, and extensional programs. This role carries technical ownership of pit-wall and near-pit structural mapping and interpretation, sets structural and geological domain standards, and mentors and reviews the work of Exploration Geologists, field technicians, and samplers on logging quality, sample chain of custody, and field HSE conduct. Acting as the senior technical authority in the Geology Manager’s absence, the Senior Exploration Geologist works closely with Grade Control, Mine Planning, Mine Ops, and Survey to keep near-pit drilling and mapping aligned with the active mining schedule and represents the geology function in cross-functional planning discussions reporting to the Geology Manager.

    Key Responsibilities

    Resource Generation/Conversion & Field Supervision

    •    Independently direct RC and diamond/extensional drilling programs to convert the Resource through Inferred Resources to Indicated around the pit envelope, setting program priorities and sequencing with minimal oversight.

    •    Lead and mentor Exploration Geologists, and supervise field technicians, and samplers daily, including core/chip logging, sample chain of custody, and field HSE conduct.

    •    Review overnight drill progress each shift (meters, hole status, downtime reasons) and action issues before the day’s program proceeds.

    •    Confirm daily rig targets, mapping traverses, and site access with Mine Planning and Survey at shift start.

    •    Hold delegated sign-off authority on drill-hole termination, program changes, and field QAQC exceptions; escalate material issues to the Geology Manager.

    Structural Mapping & Geological Interpretation

    •    Set structural interpretation standards and lead structural mapping (veins, alteration, shear fabric, contacts) using orogenic-style structural criteria; review and sign off on mapping produced by junior geologists.

    •    Spot-check core/chip logging quality in the field against established structural and geological standards.

    •    Own the structural/geological interpretation and domain models, updating it as new logging and mapping data become available, and defending its assumptions to the Geology Manager and resource modeling stakeholders.

    Database Management & QAQC

    •    Review Geobank data entry daily (collar, downhole survey, lithology/structural logs) for completeness and error flags.

    •    Confirm QC insertion (CRM/blank/duplicate) at the correct frequency before samples leave site.

    •    Import and validate weekly assay results into Geobank; independently reconcile against QAQC performance, resolve routine failures and flag only material QAQC issues to the Geology Manager.

    Geology Modeling & Reporting

    •    Own the incorporation of validated monthly geology and structural data into Micromine and review the modeling inputs prepared by junior geologists before they are incorporated.

    •    Track and report the Resource Inferred Indicated conversion status against the resource conversion plan.

    •    Compile and present weekly drilling/QAQC ops updates and a monthly geology report (resource conversion progress, drilling summary vs. budget, QAQC compliance, structural/model changes, and risks to resource classification) to the Geology Manager, deputizing for the Geology Manager in this reporting when required.

    Team & Program Planning

    •    Roster Exploration Geologists, field technicians, and samplers weekly and align drill targeting with resource/mine planning input.

    •    Review field crew performance, logging quality trends, and training needs; lead the technical development and mentorship of Exploration Geologists; develop the next month’s drill program and mapping plan against budget, with input into the annual exploration budget.

    •    Attend weekly ops meetings with the Geology team to align drilling and mapping access with the mining schedule.

    Safety & Environmental Stewardship

    •    Place the safety, health, and wellbeing of employees and contractors as the top priority in all field activities.

    •    Identify and control occupational hazards; conduct field risk assessments and safety observations.

    •    Support the Company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and comply with all applicable permits and best management practices.

    Qualifications

    Required

    •    Bachelor of Science in Geology or Geological Engineering.

    •    8+ years of experience in exploration within a mining operation, including a demonstrated track record independently leading resource conversion programs.

    •    Advanced proficiency in Micromine (or comparable resource modeling software such as Vulcan or Leapfrog), with the ability to review and validate modeling work produced by others.

    •    Demonstrated knowledge of QAQC protocols, with authority to set and enforce QAQC standards for a field team.

    •    Proven experience supervising or mentoring geologists, field technicians, or samplers, including performance and training oversight.

    •    Working knowledge of mineral resource reporting standards (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101, or S-K 1300) and how field and QAQC data flow into resource classification.

    •    Ability to work and live onsite at a remote mining operation.

    Preferred

    •    Master’s degree in Geology: Qualified Person (QP) or Competent Person (CP) status under S-K 1300, NI 43-101, or JORC, or working toward one

    •    Experience with orogenic-style gold mineralization and structural domain interpretation.

    •    Experience across multiple deposit styles beyond orogenic gold, and prior involvement in exploration budget planning or cost tracking.
