Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Senior Field Application Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical and engineering support for complex tasks related to Marine and Recreational Vehicle (RV) Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers and assure the successful integration of Garmin equipment into their vehicles and vessels and working directly with the customer to assess, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical system needs, develop schematics, and participate in any line side support.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Develop, submit, and review project scope/system requirements directly with customer
- Serve in a technical leadership capacity responsible for analyzing/resolving customer requirements and suggesting system solutions
- Apply Garmin electrical control logic and customer user interface to provide full integration as outlined in the scope of work and system requirements
- Partner with customer engineering team on system integration
- Develop complex and complete vessel wiring schematics for customer use
- Mentor customers towards solving technical issues or problems
- Act as a liaison between customers and Garmin engineering/technical teams on any custom software interface solutions
- Design complex and full electrical system configuration/automation schemes based on customer specifications
- Recommend and individually drive process improvements, author new procedures as appropriate
- Make substantial contributions toward determination of project goals, objectives, and feasibility
- Partner with customers to see designs through to production
- Train customer engineering team in the installation/configuration of Garmin equipment
- Ensure Garmin remains competitive and cutting edge with competitors and related applications
- Identify/resolve defects as required, escalating issues if needed to engineering team
- Provide feedback and recommended solutions to engineering team on product performance and provide suggestions for future improvements
- Communicate status of work and clearly provide visibility to manager or Tech lead
- Recognize and apply design standards/procedures to implement any vessel or vehicle solutions
- Thoroughly document work in an organized manner and work collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals, including frequently with Field Service Engineers and Sales staff to service accounts
- Develop and implement a minimum of 7 FAE team process improvements per year, driving team and organizational efficiency and impact
- Act as technical champion for a single system that is integral to the FAE team knowledge base
- Mentor, train, and collaborate with FAE 1 and 2’s to ensure knowledge sharing and development
- Attend trade shows and dealer events as required
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another technical Engineering related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
- Must have patience and understanding that the Garmin customer is the highest priority at all times
- Must possess previous experience or exposure to (with ability to implement) the design and development of electrical systems for road-going vehicles or marine vessels
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, and able to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
- Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
- Excellent time management and follow-up skills
- Flexibility to travel (more than 50% of the time)
