This Opportunity

WSP USA is seeking a knowledgeable Senior Field Consultant, Construction Health & Safety to implement, monitor, and continuously improve our safety program for a major, long-term utility project in the greater New York City area.

The successful candidate will be a key resource for interpreting health, safety, and construction regulatory requirements, assuring compliance and best practices. As an integral part of our cross-services collaborative team, you will contribute to a growing organization dedicated to meeting our client''s objectives and solving complex challenges. This position will report directly to the Program's HSE Senior Safety Manager and will be a fully dedicated project position. The candidate can be based near any office in the NY/NJ metro area, provided they can mobilize to various project sites (Queens, Bronx, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties) and attend office meetings (Manhattan) within a daily commute. They will provide ongoing communication to supervision and project management regarding the assessment of the HS program''s performance and will implement recommended actions to enhance safety and compliance.

Your Impact

  • Provide HSE guidance to WSP's Program Management team
  • Assist with the review of subcontractors Hazard Analyses and Project-Specific Safety Plans prior to start of services to verify that subcontracted work methods address identified and potential hazards and comply with WSP and client safety SOPs
  • Assist WSP's Program Management team with the development and implementation of a robust HSE site inspection schedule across all active construction sites.
  • Conduct field safety inspections at project locations to ensure compliance
  • Conduct, document, and timely submit required safety reports and project safety deliverables
  • Review, document, track, and comment on contractor compliance with OSHA, contractual safety requirements, and local regulations to identify potential safety-related exposures
  • Review subcontractors daily hazard assessments and verify implementation of controls
  • Document daily safety observations using project document managing tools as directed
  • Deliver safety training not limited to daily safety briefings and safety awareness campaign(s) as required
  • Interface with contractors, managers, supervisors, team leads, and team members on safety aspects of work efforts to promote open communication and foster a climate of continuous improvement
  • Perform, participate in, lead, &/or monitor active incident investigations and root cause analysis to identify and implement corrective actions necessary to prevent future incidents.
  • Proactively manage time, assignment schedule, work flow, and expenses

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years construction HSE experience
  • 5+ years' experience in HSE on large construction projects; preferably high voltage utility and heavy civil roadway experience
  • Experience with/knowledge of New York State and New York city construction regulations and standards
  • Ability and willingness to travel daily throughout the greater NYC area & Long Island regions
  • Ability and willingness to work day or night shifts, with flexibility in shift start and end times
  • Must pass background check, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and client mandated drug tests as applicable

Required Capabilities:

  • Able to build relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, contractors, and construction personnel
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demeanor that promotes collaboration, teamwork, safety consciousness, open-mindedness with a positive approach to problem solving
  • Promote a culture of caring throughout the lifecycle of the program
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety regulatory standards and safety best practices
  • Experience in presenting safety training materials
  • Effective and efficient use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and digital applications

Current Training certifications or the eligibility to obtain:

  • OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926 10hr, 30hr, and/or 500 series training
  • HAZWOPER 40
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens
  • Construction related qualified/competent person safety training (Scaffold, Fall Protection, Excavation, Forklift, Electrical Safety, Confined Space)

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $92,600.00 - $135,000.00

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
