Field Engineer — Multi-Function Office Systems
Green Office Partner
Full-time
In-Office | Chicago, IL, United States
We are seeking a high-caliber Senior Field Engineer to drive technical excellence across our enterprise commercial print, graphic arts, and high-volume production accounts within the Chicagoland marketplace. Operating from our local branch base, this position acts as our premier technical tier, executing complex electromechanical break-fix resolutions, advanced color calibrations, and integrated digital network diagnostics. As an elite custodian of critical enterprise operations, you will take ownership of high-volume client accounts across the Loop, O'Hare industrial corridor, and regional corporate hubs—maximizing equipment uptime, minimizing repeat service actions, and acting as the primary field technical escalation path and safety mentor for mid-grade engineering personnel.
Perform advanced electromechanical hardware repairs, overhauls, structural calibrations, and preventative maintenance on specialized high-volume digital production presses, specifically targeting the Xerox Versant (280/4100), Iridesse, and Nuvera mono/color platforms.
Configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot sophisticated Digital Front Ends (DFEs), with deep technical emphasis on EFI Fiery controllers and Command WorkStation, including specialized spectrophotometer color profiling, Pantone matching, and custom workflow queues.
Diagnose and remediate advanced digital network and workflow bottlenecks: navigate TCP/IP network structures, DNS routing, secure scanning protocols (SMBv3, SFTP, SMTP over TLS), and enterprise user authentications (Active Directory, LDAP).
Provide expert, high-level support for enterprise-wide document management architectures, including managed print software integrations such as PaperCut MF and Equitrac.
Coordinate territory routing and parts replenishment directly through our central branch office, managing regional transit across the expansive Chicagoland highway system utilizing integrated tollway transponders (I-PASS).
Serve as a primary field safety officer and technical evaluator, conducting mandatory 3–10 day field ride-along orientations and signing off on operational competencies for mid-grade technicians.
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: Active, verified Xerox Production Color / Mono Certifications (e.g., Versant, Iridesse, Nuvera, or PrimeLink series) or documented OEM status as an Authorized Service Provider.
A minimum of 5 to 8+ years of progressive field experience explicitly servicing production-level digital print machinery, high-speed commercial document solutions, or heavy digital presses.
Master-level comprehension of complex paper-path physics, fine registration mechanisms, high-voltage fuser assemblies, and laser scanning units.
Strong technical networking capabilities; CompTIA Network+, Security+, or equivalent corporate infrastructure proficiency is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills with a track record of successfully navigating high-stress, production-down scenarios with corporate clients.
Possession of a valid driver's license with a completely clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) capable of satisfying stringent fleet insurance underwriting requirements.
First-Time Fix Rate (FTFR): Maintain an individual FTFR baseline exceeding 85% through disciplined diagnostic rigor and precise tooling workflows.
SLA Compliance: Consistently satisfy strict 2-hour to 4-hour on-site response timelines on high-volume production-down customer escalations.
Callback Elimination: Restrict 30-day recurring maintenance callback rates to under 5% via absolute operational thoroughness on every dispatch.
Car-Stock Management: Drive inventory accuracy above 98% with automated parts consumption logging inside the corporate field ERP platform.
Premium base salary commensurate with certified technical expertise, supplemented by territory efficiency bonuses.
Comprehensive health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance coverage.
401(k) company retirement plan with immediate vestment and an excellent corporate matching structure.
Generous accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) allowances alongside an established annual paid holiday calendar.
100% company-subsidized advanced factory training programs, ensuring structured certification pathways to emergent commercial print infrastructure.
Assigned mobile workspace: modern corporate laptop, smartphone, precision diagnostic tool kits, and an assigned service fleet utility vehicle equipped with fuel card and integrated tollway transponder access (subject to the compliance criteria noted above).
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified candidates are evaluated without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability status, or protected veteran status.
