Overview
The Financial Analyst 3 is responsible for providing detailed financial analysis and reporting, identifying risks and trends, and recommending improvements to systems, methods, practices, policies, and procedures. This role involves complex account reconciliation, budget development and monitoring, producing comprehensive reporting and analysis packages, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and institutional procedures. The Financial Analyst 3 collaborates with various departments, university leadership, and external stakeholders to support informed decision-making and maintain the financial integrity of the organization.
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong analytical, accounting, financial management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex analysis and make independent decisions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software, with the ability to create complex financial reports for tracking, analysis, and communication.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to address the needs of individuals at all levels, and a strong commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
Ability to work with financial information and multiple financial systems, facilitating meetings and collaborating effectively with a wide range of individuals.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and concurrent priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Grant-related experience in a university or non-profit environment, with knowledge of sponsored research administration and relevant regulations.
Experience with advanced reporting and data analysis tools, such as Power BI, and familiarity with Yale's financial systems (Workday, YBT, IRES).
Strong background in financial modeling, budgeting, and working with large data sets from multiple sources.
Advanced degree (MBA, CPA) and experience with financial accounting, project management, and process improvement.
Proven experience in managing, mentoring, and advising staff, with the ability to develop effective solutions and manage multiple deliverables.
