Job Requirements

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Manager - Financial I (Accounting & Payroll), the Sr. Financial Analyst I - Accounting is responsible for maintaining the integrity of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System's general ledger and supporting accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting across the healthcare system and related entities. For this position, the scope of work primarily includes Apella Health Management, Inc. (Apella), a South Carolina nonprofit corporation which provides executive management services for the healthcare system under the terms of a Management Services Agreement. This role performs intermediate to some complex accounting activities, leads month-end and year-end close processes, ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and serves as a key resource for financial audits and tax reporting. Position may require occasional extended hours during month-end close, year-end reporting, and audit periods. Requires intermediate to some advanced critical thinking, self-management, and communication skills. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

Experience

• At least 5 years of relevant accounting/financial analysis experience required.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data analysis.
• Experience with Enterprise Resource Management Systems including general ledger modules.
• Must be efficient on ten-key calculator by touch.
• Must be efficient in use of Windows operating system.

License/Registration/Certifications

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education

• Master's degree in accounting, business, or healthcare administration.

Preferred Experience

• 6-10 years of relevant accounting/financial analysis experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data analysis.
• Experience with Infor Lawson general ledger system.
• Experience with business analytics software such as MS Power BI.

Preferred License/Registration/Certifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

The Senior Financial Analyst I will have mostly intermediate with some advanced rankings for the above competencies.

Core Job Responsibilities

General Ledger Management and Financial Close:

• Proficient use of Infor Lawson general ledger system
• Prepare and review complex journal entries, supporting schedules, and account reconciliations
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger for multiple entities and cost centers.
• Ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions in accordance with GAAP and organizational policies.
• Monitor and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to identify unusual trends, discrepancies, and variances.
• Collaborate with other accountants/analysts to interpret and analyze financial data.
• Lead assigned areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
• Support preparation of financial information for executive leadership and board reporting.
• Meet required deadlines.

Account Reconciliations and Audit Support:

• Perform and review reconciliations for general ledger accounts.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
• Support annual external financial statement audits.
• Prepare and provide audit schedules, documentation, and requested analyses.
• Assist with regulatory filings and tax reporting requirements.

Other:

• Demonstrate proficient use of Microsoft Excel including intermediate to advanced Pivot tables and VLOOKUP formulas.
• Identify areas for improvement and recommend and/or correct problems in a timely manner.
• Plan and complete special projects in an accurate and timely manner.
