Job Summary

The role is responsible for using AutoCAD and other design software to create accurate and clear design documents, schematics, and layouts of fire alarm systems. This is a remote position with occasional travel to Wilmington, NC.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify detailed fire alarm and suppression systems adhering to local, state, and national codes, regulations, and standards.
• Attend project-specific meetings.
• Conduct thorough reviews of architectural and engineering drawings to ensure compatibility of design.
• Provide expert technical advice and solutions to complex design challenges.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and client teams to ensure specifications and designs meet quality and safety standards.
• Manage and oversee multiple design projects from concept through completion.
• Obtain permits as required, including all related duties such as preparation, delivery, corrections, etc.
• Maintain strong working relationships with technicians and office staff to facilitate effective communications and exceptional customer service.
• Stay updated with the latest technologies and changes in fire protection regulations.
• Perform field surveys as required by project needs (estimated to be less than 10% of the time).
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What We Are Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; NICET Level IV certification in Fire Alarm Systems is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in designing fire alarm and suppression systems.
• Extensive experience with AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
• Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection systems and applicable codes (NFPA, IBC, etc.).
• Ability to work independently and in a remote setting, managing time effectively and meeting project deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects.
• Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
• Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, requiring the use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices.
• Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening, and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
