This is an opportunity for an experienced FPGA engineer to take ownership of complex digital design projects while also contributing to the development and mentorship of junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Derive FPGA requirements from system-level requirements and develop FPGA architectures to fulfill those requirements.
- Design, implement, and test Register-Transfer Level (RTL) features and components based on system architecture and requirements.
- Own the detailed design and development of assigned FPGA/firmware components and subsystem functionality.
- Develop and execute unit-level and system-level test and implementation plans.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate FPGA features into system hardware.
- Support hardware bring-up and troubleshooting of RTL features developed by the team.
- Participate in requirements, architecture, design, and code reviews throughout the development lifecycle.
- Work within structured development and quality processes, including requirements traceability and verification.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior members of RTL, FPGA, and integration teams.
- Contribute to the development of reliable, scalable, and maintainable FPGA designs.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong proficiency in SystemVerilog and/or Verilog.
- Programming experience with Python.
- Strong understanding of FPGA design methodologies, including state machine design and DSP implementation.
- Experience with FPGA timing closure.
- Experience mapping algorithms into FPGA-appropriate hardware implementations.
- Strong experience integrating FPGA features and bringing up hardware.
- Experience with HDL synthesis and simulation tools such as VCS, Synplify, or similar.
- Experience with FPGA design analysis, including:
- Timing analysis
- Lint
- Clock Domain Crossing (CDC)
- Code coverage
- IP compliance
- Experience designing portable and scalable test benches.
- Experience with UVM/OVM and constrained-random verification.
- Familiarity with hierarchical simulation and verification frameworks.
- Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, UART, and SPI.
- Familiarity with microcontroller peripherals, including ADCs, DACs, Flash, EEPROM, timers, and watchdogs.
- Experience working with functional requirements and developing requirement-based tests.
- Working knowledge of data structures and algorithm fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of digital and analog electronics.
- Experience with configuration management and change-control tools such as Git, Subversion, Jira, or similar.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and technically complex environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of control systems and digital signal processing fundamentals.

- Strong scripting and automation skills using tools such as:
- Python
- Bash
- Make/CMake
- TCL
- Experience developing embedded applications involving LiDAR, laser systems, or other advanced sensing technologies.
- Experience working in safety-critical industries, including familiarity with FIT analysis or similar reliability methodologies.
- Knowledge of computing architectures beyond FPGAs, including DSPs, GPUs, and MCUs, and their associated hardware platforms.
- Experience with ASIC design and migration from FPGA prototypes to production ASICs.
- Experience working with complex embedded systems and hardware/software integration.
