Job Description
Serve as the mechanical design discipline lead for large and complex capital projects.
Lead mechanical design activities and project closeout documentation in accordance with engineering execution and document-control requirements.
Develop mechanical design packages, including 3D models, equipment arrangements, general arrangement drawings, fabrication and installation details, equipment supports, access platforms, and vendor-data integration.
Provide technical guidance on 3D modeling, equipment layout, mechanical detailing, maintainability, and construction coordination.
Develop mechanical designs that meet project, process, safety, operability, maintenance, reliability, and constructability requirements.
Model and detail mechanical equipment and components, including connections, supports, guards, access provisions, lifting and removal clearances, and system interfaces.
Provide technical oversight of equipment vendors, engineering consultants, design contractors, and fabrication or installation contractors.
Support field verification, constructability reviews, installation, commissioning, checkout, and resolution of design-related field issues.
Develop and maintain mechanical design standards, specifications, standard details, libraries, templates, and CAD/3D design tools.
Communicate project scope, design decisions, risks, status, and technical issues to project teams, leadership, stakeholders, and site representatives.
Coordinate mechanical design interfaces across disciplines and conduct design, model, interference, and clash-resolution reviews.
Verify existing field conditions and incorporate site information, applicable codes and standards, vendor requirements, and project specifications into designs.
Review and approve mechanical drawings and models for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and quality.
Mentor less-experienced designers and promote consistent design practices and effective use of CAD/3D tools.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, procurement, construction, commissioning, maintenance, operations, and safety teams.
Interface with equipment vendors, fabricators, design consultants, EPCM firms, and construction contractors.
Skills Required
10+ years of progressively responsible mechanical design experience.
Proficiency with 2D CAD and 3D model-based design systems for mechanical equipment layout and detailing.
Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, equipment arrangement, tolerances, materials, fabrication practices, and installation methods.
Working knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and standards.
Ability to interpret process and engineering documents, vendor drawings, specifications, equipment data, calculations, and field information.
Ability to translate technical information into coordinated mechanical design deliverables.
Strong project coordination and design review skills.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize assignments.
Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Effective communication skills with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination and resolve design or technical issues.
Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to other designers.
Ability to support multiple sites and projects concurrently on a regional basis and, as needed, across global business operations.
Experience working with equipment vendors, engineering consultants, design contractors, fabricators, and construction contractors.
Experience supporting field verification, constructability reviews, installation, commissioning, and design-related issue resolution.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance, reliability, and safety.
Ability to lead mechanical design activities and provide technical oversight within assigned project scope.
Education/Training/Certifications
Associate degree in Design, Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering may be considered.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Pay Rate/Salary
Estimated Salary: $86.43 to $94.43per hour. Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors.
