Senior Industrial Control Panel Electrical Engineer

Shape Engineering Excellence for Systems That Power Critical Industries

Electronic Power Designs (EPD), a Control Associates company, is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Industrial Control Panel Electrical Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Bloomingdale, NJ. EPD brings over 45 years of precision manufacturing excellence to the Control Associates portfolio - our industrial control panels power everything from natural gas pressure systems throughout Manhattan to life-saving medical technology. This is your opportunity to play a key role in shaping our engineering standards and UL certification programs.

    About This Opportunity:

At EPD, engineering quality directly impacts safety, manufacturability, customer satisfaction, and our reputation. As our Senior Industrial Control Panel Electrical Engineer, you'll serve as the technical bridge between customers, engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. You'll validate design intent, ensure UL and NEC compliance, and ultimately develop into EPD's primary UL Manufacturer's Technical Representative (MTR) - a critical leadership role within our organization.

    What You'll Lead and Deliver:

    Engineering Design & Compliance:

    • Review customer-supplied electrical designs for completeness, functionality, safety, manufacturability, and compliance

    • Interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, panel layouts, and customer specifications

    • Verify component selection and sizing to ensure compliance with UL standards and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements

    • Develop, update, and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and engineering documentation using AutoCAD

    • Create and maintain accurate bills of material for all panel assemblies

    • Develop complete engineering release packages to support manufacturing and testing activities

    • Identify design conflicts, clearance concerns, component compatibility issues, and manufacturability risks before production release

    UL Certification Leadership:

    • Develop deep expertise in UL 508A and UL 698 requirements

    • Ensure engineering documentation supports successful UL certification activities

    • Grow into EPD's primary UL Manufacturer's Technical Representative (MTR)

    • Maintain compliance with all applicable standards and certification requirements

    Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with customers to resolve technical questions and design concerns

    • Work closely with mechanics, wiremen, manufacturing supervisors, and quality personnel

    • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), troubleshooting, and final product validation

    • Serve as a trusted technical resource for manufacturing personnel regarding wiring methods, component selection, and quality standards

    • Participate in project estimating and proposal reviews to improve quality and execution readiness

    • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and efficiency

    What You'll Bring:

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline

    • 8-10 years of experience in industrial controls, control panel design, electrical engineering, or systems integration

    • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, control system drawings, and technical specifications

    • Working knowledge of industrial control panels, power distribution, motor control, and automation systems

    • Experience developing electrical drawings and engineering documentation using AutoCAD

    • Understanding of electrical component selection, circuit protection, conductor sizing, and control panel construction

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

    • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience designing or supporting industrial control panels

    • Familiarity with UL 508A industrial control panel requirements

    • Familiarity with UL 698 hazardous location panel requirements

    • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements

    • Experience supporting factory acceptance testing and troubleshooting

    • Experience in custom engineered-to-order manufacturing environments

    • Exposure to UL certification processes and documentation requirements

    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus

    What Success Looks Like:

You demonstrate exceptional technical judgment and consistently deliver complete, accurate, and manufacturable engineering packages. You identify design, compliance, and manufacturability concerns early in the project lifecycle. You work effectively with customers, manufacturing personnel, and leadership to resolve technical challenges. You take ownership of EPD's long-term UL compliance strategy and successfully develop into our primary UL Manufacturer's Technical Representative. You understand that engineering quality directly impacts safety, customer satisfaction, and EPD's reputation - and you take that responsibility seriously.

How This Role Embodies Our Core Values:
