Job Description:

The Senior Industrial Engineer serves as a lead role within the Distribution and Logistics Engineering group, supporting process improvement, customer growth, selected implementation efforts, and technology deployments. This position develops and applies engineering solutions, operating plans, and facility layouts across the UPS network while leveraging the latest technologies.

The incumbent applies work measurement, methods and procedures, operations research, financial analysis, information system modeling, statistical analysis, project support, and site layout design in a distribution environment. This position coordinates work across engineering teams, cross-functional partners, operations, and customers to ensure expectations are met while supporting service, cost, and performance goals.

Internal Salary Grade: 20G

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with engineering, operations, and cross-functional partners to define project scope, identify data requirements, and establish stakeholder roles and responsibilities
  • Recommends adjustments to ensure solutions and operating plans reflect an accurate scope of work and operational requirements
  • Serves as a resource for identifying issues, supporting resolution efforts, and driving continuous improvement to support existing business needs and organic growth opportunities
  • Determines data requirements needed to develop operating plans, process improvements, and distribution layouts
  • Performs cost-benefit analyses to ensure effective use of resources and maximize return on investment
  • Conducts gap analyses between proposed solutions or process changes and actual results to identify improvement opportunities
  • Resolves issues and clarifies communications with stakeholders to maintain alignment with business objectives
  • Assists in validating planned versus actual results to assess business impacts and performance outcomes
  • Develops and implements solutions to improve service, cost, and process performance
  • Participates in business review and planning meetings and partners with the operations management team to implement solutions and follow up on action items
  • Works with the operations management team to support execution of changes that improve efficiency and service performance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates understanding of project objectives, implementation plans, and key deliverables; provides clear and timely updates; identifies risks and communicates them to appropriate stakeholders
  • Independently conducts standard analyses to identify issues in methods, processes, or workflow; interprets results and recommends solutions to address identified problems or inefficiencies
  • Leverages technology to achieve business objectives; resolves issues impeding work; adapts information and data to varying situations or audiences; and recommends changes based on trends and best practices
  • Identifies common problems with current work designs; specifies requirements for new work designs; and modifies existing methods, processes, and flows to improve performance and resolve operational issues
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Access, Teams, OneNote, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD
  • Understanding of Warehouse Management System (WMS) design and functionality

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Industrial Engineering or related field
  • Must live in the same geographic area of the job or willing to relocate yourself. (No relocation provided)
