Job Description

Overview

Microsoft is on a mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Our culture is centered on embracing a growth mindset, a theme of inspiring excellence, and encouraging teams and leaders to bring their best each day. In doing so, we create life-changing innovations that impact billions of lives around the world. You can help us achieve our mission.

In the Energy and Resources industry, our mission comes to life by helping power and utilities companies deliver energy that is resilient, affordable, and clean. Modern life runs on energy, and utilities today must meet surging electricity demand from electrification, data centers, and new distributed and renewable resources, all while modernizing the grid and keeping costs down for the communities they serve. Microsoft partners with utilities to solve these challenges at scale, using cloud and AI to accelerate the clean energy transition, strengthen grid reliability, and unlock new efficiency and growth across their core business.

This role sits within Microsoft Frontier Company, a new organization that is part of Microsoft. Microsoft Frontier Company brings our AI deployment engineering work together under one accountable team and takes our most strategic customers from AI experimentation to measurable business outcomes at scale. It focuses on the largest enterprise (S500) accounts, pairing deep expertise from our Industry Advisory team with Engineering Studios, Strategic Partnerships, Change Management, and Industry Solutions Delivery, while ensuring customers keep, isolate, and govern their own intelligence and IP. As the Senior Industry Advisor for Power and Utilities, you will be the industry authority who engages utility executives, shapes market-making transformation opportunities, and turns Microsofts cloud and AI platform into resilient, affordable, and clean energy outcomes.

The Senior Industry Advisor, Power and Utilities is a senior, executive-facing role that operates at a strategic level with Microsofts most important US utility customers, with a focus on S500 and priority accounts across the West and Midwest. As the industry subject matter expert, you will originate and shape large cloud and AI transformation opportunities, build trusted-advisor relationships with C-suite decision makers, and translate industry priorities such as grid modernization, resilience, affordability, and the clean energy transition into engagements that deliver measurable business outcomes. Working alongside the account team and the broader Microsoft Frontier Company crews, you will bring an industry point of view to account planning, lead executive envisioning, and win the transformational deals that make Microsoft the utilities industrys partner of choice for AI at scale. This is a rare opportunity to help build a new business at the frontier of energy and AI, elevate Microsofts brand across the industry, and directly shape how utilities make energy more resilient, affordable, and clean .

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Microsofts Power and Utilities industry expert and trusted advisor to C-suite and senior decision makers, building the executive credibility and brand recognition that shapes each customers cloud and AI transformation agenda.

  • Originate, qualify, and shape market-making transformation opportunities, prioritizing assigned high-growth utility accounts across the US West and Midwest, and drive higher win rates on large, complex deals from envisioning through commercial close.

  • Bring a multi-year industry point of view to account planning and executive envisioning, connecting utility priorities such as grid modernization, resilience, affordability, and the clean energy transition to Microsofts cloud and AI platform and outcome-based engineering offers.

  • Orchestrate the account team, Microsoft Frontier Company crews (Engineering Studios, Strategic Partnerships, Change Management, and Industry Solutions Delivery), and the partner ecosystem through a single front door to build pipeline and deliver the business outcomes customers define.

  • Represent Microsoft as a thought leader at industry events and with regulators and ecosystem stakeholders, and channel industry insight back to sales, marketing, and engineering to sharpen the Power and Utilities go-to-market and repeatable AI scenarios.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the power and utilities or broader energy industry, or in energy-focused consulting driving digital transformation.

  • BA/BS or MS degree in Business, Engineering, Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience originating and closing large, complex solution or services deals and engaging C-suite executives in enterprise organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to articulate the business value of cloud and AI and orchestrate internal and partner stakeholders to win transformational deals.

  • Understanding of the utilities regulatory environment, including Public Utility Commissions, FERC, and NERC, and the industrys data, security, and AI priorities.

  • Experience with the Microsoft cloud, Copilot, and the energy partner ecosystem.
