The Opportunity
Our client, a global manufacturer operating in a highly regulated environment, is seeking an experienced Senior Injection Molding & Plastics Engineer to join its process engineering organization.
This is a senior technical individual contributor opportunity for an engineer who has developed significant expertise in injection molding, plastics processing, tooling, mold design, and manufacturing process development.
The position offers substantial technical ownership and the opportunity to solve complex manufacturing challenges across a global manufacturing network. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, R&D, suppliers, mold makers, and other technical teams to develop, optimize, troubleshoot, and sustain high volume manufacturing processes.
For an exceptional candidate with the appropriate experience, there may be flexibility to consider the position at a Principal Engineer level.
What You'll Do
You will serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting complex plastics manufacturing and injection molding operations.
Responsibilities will include:
• Develop, optimize, troubleshoot, and sustain injection molding processes.
• Lead hands on molding setup, process development, and process optimization activities.
• Troubleshoot complex molding, tooling, equipment, and manufacturing problems and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Participate in mold and tooling design reviews, including DFM and mold flow analysis.
• Partner with internal teams and external mold makers on tooling design, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Apply knowledge of polymer behavior and plastics processing to improve manufacturing performance and product quality.
• Support automated manufacturing equipment and secondary operations including assembly, welding, and packaging.
• Lead root cause investigations and drive process improvements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate across Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, R&D, Maintenance, Safety, Purchasing, suppliers, and external vendors.
• Support manufacturing operations globally, including occasional international travel when complex technical issues require onsite support.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring significant technical depth in injection molding and tooling, rather than general manufacturing or process engineering experience alone.
Strong candidates will have experience with several of the following:
• Injection molding process development and troubleshooting
• Plastics processing
• Mold and tooling design
• Mold construction and maintenance
• Tooling troubleshooting and repair
• Mold design reviews
• Mold flow analysis
• DFM and manufacturing process optimization
• Polymer behavior and resin processing
• Root cause analysis and corrective action
• Automated manufacturing equipment
• High volume manufacturing
• Regulated manufacturing environments
Experience working with materials such as polycarbonate, ABS, PVC, polyesters, or similar engineering polymers is highly desirable.
Knowledge of tooling manufacturing processes such as machining, EDM, polishing, and texturing is also valuable.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
• 4+ years of relevant engineering experience required, although the ideal candidate will bring considerably deeper technical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience within a GMP or similarly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Medical device manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Candidates from other highly regulated industries, including aerospace and automotive manufacturing, may also be considered.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to work onsite in the Denver, Colorado area.
• Ability to travel internationally approximately 15% to 20%.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who wants to continue advancing as a technical expert without having to move into people management.
The position offers significant technical ownership, exposure to complex injection molding and tooling challenges, collaboration with global manufacturing operations, and the opportunity to mentor and influence other technical professionals.
Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
