Use Your Power for Purpose

The Senior Instrumentation Specialist supports the day-to-day execution, compliance, and continuous improvement of the site calibration program while also providing instrumentation support for field devices, process equipment, and project-related technical needs. This role serves as a technical resource for instrumentation/calibration documentation, equipment onboarding, record review, instrumentation troubleshooting support, and project implementation activities. The position works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Operations, Automation, vendors, and project teams to ensure instruments and equipment are properly evaluated, supported, added, maintained, and documented at the Andover site.

What You Will Achieve

  • Perform computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) record reviews to verify completeness, accuracy, proper documentation, appropriate approvals, and alignment with applicable procedures.
  • Identify documentation errors, missing information, or potential compliance concerns and work with appropriate personnel to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for requests to add new equipment, instruments, or positions to the CMMS.
  • Review new equipment information, including asset details, location, manufacturer/model data, criticality, calibration requirements, ranges, tolerances, test points, and frequency.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Maintenance, vendors, and equipment owners to ensure new assets are properly assessed and entered in the CMMS.
  • Assist with project implementation by supporting calibration impact assessments, equipment turnover reviews, startup readiness, and creation or modification of calibration records.
  • Support the development, revision, and improvement of job plans, task instructions, forms, and supporting documentation.
  • Provide technical support for calibration execution related questions, including equipment setup, tolerance interpretation, calibration standards, and documentation expectations.
  • Provide instrumentation support for process instrumentation, control devices, analytical equipment, and field components by assisting with troubleshooting, setup, replacement evaluations, and technical documentation updates.
  • Support project implementation by reviewing instrumentation requirements, assisting with instrument data collection, confirming calibration needs, supporting commissioning/startup activities, and helping ensure new or modified instrumentation is ready for operational use.
  • Track and follow up on calibration program action items, open issues, project deliverables, and record corrections.
  • Support compliance with site procedures, regulatory expectations, data integrity practices, and good documentation practices.
  • Assist with audits, inspections, deviation investigations, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiatives related to the calibration program.
  • Promote consistent calibration practices by sharing knowledge, mentoring peers, and helping improve team understanding of program requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of calibration program requirements, calibration documentation, and equipment lifecycle expectations.
  • Experience with instrumentation, calibration activities, work orders, computerized maintenance/calibration management systems, and GMP documentation practices.
  • Hands-on knowledge of instrumentation support activities, including field device troubleshooting, loop checks, instrument replacement support, configuration review, and coordination with automation or controls personnel when needed.
  • Ability to review technical records for accuracy, completeness, and procedural compliance.
  • Ability to interpret equipment specifications, calibration ranges, tolerances, test points, and manufacturer information.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with cross-functional groups, including Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Operations, vendors, and project teams.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and escalate issues when needed.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

  • BA/BS with at least 4 years of experience or MBA/MS with at least 2 years of experience or PhD/JD with any years of experience or associate's degree with at least 8 years of experience or high school diploma (or equivalent) with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated time management skills, ability to work on multiple projects at a time
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Document Management Systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with stakeholders, plant partners, engineers, and maintenance persons
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and build teams across functions and levels in the organization
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in complex situations
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)

  • Experience with regulatory compliance and quality standards in a pharmaceutical environment
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience using common AI tools, including generative technologies such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, to support problem solving and enhance

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $99,200.00 to $165,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
