Senior IT Engineer/Lead VTC and Video Systems

Work Arrangement: Hybrid; telework authorized with required onsite support and site visits
Employment Type: Full-time W-2; contingent upon contract award
Pay Rate: $63.02 $65.76 per hour

Position Overview

SMX is seeking a Senior IT Engineer to lead a three-person team supporting USDA videoconferencing, collaboration, and analog and digital video systems. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring someone who can guide other engineers, produce clear technical documentation, troubleshoot complex VTC issues, and work directly with government customers.

The Senior IT Engineer will supervise the technical activities of two supporting IT Engineers, including one assigned to the National Agricultural Library.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide technical direction to two IT Engineers.

  • Establish daily priorities, review completed work, and maintain the quality of technical deliverables.

  • Prepare and maintain documentation for the operation, configuration, testing, and support of VTC and analog and digital video systems.

  • Translate customer needs into technical requirements covering design, testing, transition, operations, maintenance, and continual improvement.

  • Facilitate meeting setup and provide real-time technical support for high-visibility events.

  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support VTC infrastructure across multiple USDA organizations.

  • Develop and update VTC standard operating procedures, configuration instructions, test records, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Perform routine maintenance and operational checks on VTC and related infrastructure.

  • Support large Microsoft Teams and Zoom for Government webinars involving agency leadership.

  • Support controlled lockup meetings where internet access is restricted until an authorized release time.

  • Lead site surveys for meeting-space renovations and recommend compatible technologies based on stakeholder needs and USDA IT policies.

  • Support VTC lifecycle planning, demonstrations, testing, and evaluation.

  • Confirm that deployed VTC equipment remains compatible with USDA Client Experience Center standards and requirements.

  • Communicate technical issues, risks, recommendations, and status clearly to customers and program leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading technical personnel supporting VTC, audiovisual, or enterprise collaboration systems.

  • Experience preparing technical documentation for the operation, configuration, and testing of VTC and analog and digital video systems.

  • Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise videoconferencing and audiovisual infrastructure.

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Teams and Zoom for Government, including large webinars or high-visibility meetings.

  • Experience conducting site surveys and supporting meeting-space renovations or audiovisual modernization projects.

  • Ability to translate stakeholder requirements into practical and compliant technology solutions.

  • Knowledge of activity and data modeling, transaction-flow analysis, internal controls, risk analysis, and performance-management practices.

  • Strong written, verbal, customer-service, and technical leadership skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Ability to work independently and respond calmly during time-sensitive technical events.

  • Residence within a practical commuting distance of the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

  • Valid state-issued driver's license and current automobile insurance.

Contract Information

This position is contingent upon contract award, funding, and final customer approval. Any applicable citizenship, background investigation, suitability, or security requirements will be communicated when confirmed.
