Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is recruiting for a Sr. IT Help Desk Engineer to provide advanced technical assistance to support the agency's security and technology programs in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia Security and Technology policies and standards.

The Senior IT Help Desk Engineer would be expected to:

  • Perform advanced level troubleshooting for help desk requests including but not limited to resolving complex software, networking, and hardware issues.

  • Oversee vulnerability remediation processes from start to finish including but not limited to: reviewing vulnerability reports from Information Security, determining remediation processes, managing rollout and documentation including artifacts for audit.

  • Oversee Agency computer refresh operations including but not limited to: ordering new computer equipment, seeking approval for exceptions, and scheduling.

  • Control admin consoles for multiple applications including Adobe, PDQ, Microsoft, Verizon, and others.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working in information technology, information security, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience with help desk support related to software and hardware issues and/or set up.

  • Knowledge of information security and technology in the public education setting.

  • Demonstrated experience with technical writing and system documentation.

  • Ability to read and understand system vulnerability reports.

  • Demonstrated experience and/or understanding of patch management.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of networks and network traffic and/or architecture.

  • Knowledge of Windows 10/11

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Active Directory.

Additional Considerations

  • Considerable knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia IT Security policies and standards preferred.

  • Information Security or Technology Industry certifications are highly desirable.
