Lead / Senior Accountant 

 

5+ Years experience in Accounting / Public Accounting /Project Accounting

 

Venteon is currently seeking a Lead or Senior Accountant to fill an opening with an Industry Leader and Employer of Choice with headquarters in the Metro Detroit area. The ideal candidate will be a critical contributor to the company s overall financial success.

 

Requirements of the Lead / Senior Accountant 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Accounting with increasing level of responsibility. 

  • CPA preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting, SEC and external reporting and compliance.

  • Outstanding project management, organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex accounting and other issues.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Ability to research and efficiently analyze various types of data.

  • Skilled relationship builder and ability to work well cross-functionally.

  • Requires ability to influence and make decisions in complex areas.

  • Demonstrates above average knowledge of financial systems.

Responsibilities of the Lead / Senior Accountant

 

The Senior/Lead Accountant oversees and performs complex accounting activities related to the data collection, analysis, billing, and recording of service revenues across multiple operating companies. This role leads and executes processes related to formula rate true-ups, accounting, settlements, and revenue requirement support. The position serves as a subject matter expert in settlements, regulatory accounting, and billing activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Revenue Accounting & Analysis

  • Prepares, analyzes, and reconciles monthly billed revenue, aspects of the formula rate true-ups. 

  • Ensures accounting processes produce accurate and complete data for revenue requirement calculations.

  • Creates and manages revenue models.

  • Administers accounting and billing activities in accordance with legacy transmission revenue agreements.

Accounting & Compliance

  • Supports management s assessment of the company s ability to apply regulatory accounting (Accounting Standards Codification 980 (ASC 980)), evaluates recoverability of intangible assets, and ensures liabilities are properly recorded.

  • Provides quarterly, annual, and ad hoc support for financial reporting, including Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings (10 Q/10 K).

  • Ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley controls and provides documentation for internal and external audits.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Cross Functional Coordination

  • Communicates with customers, auditors, and other stakeholders regarding settlements and  accounting matters.

  • Coordinates with legal, engineering, finance, and accounting teams to resolve settlements and accounting, issues.

  • Anticipates and responds to internal and external stakeholder needs, providing education and support as required.

 

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Leads or contributes to process improvements for settlements and accounting activities.

  • Identifies opportunities to streamline workflows, enhance reporting, and adapt to system changes.

  • Maintains and improves procedures and documentation related to settlements and accounting issues.
