Reporting to the Director of Special Collections, the Senior Library Assistant plays a central and collaborative role in supporting the daily operations, preservation, access, and engagement activities of Hofstra University's Special Collections, including the Long Island Studies Institute (LISI), University Archives, and Rare Books & Manuscripts. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to make history visible-and who thrives in a team-oriented environment where no two days are quite the same.
The Senior Library Assistant coordinates and supports core operational workflows across Special Collections, helping ensure that rare and unique materials are discoverable, well cared for, and accessible to students, faculty, researchers, and the broader community.

Qualifications
This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who enjoys working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Strong communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to excellent service required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with integrated library systems (e.g., Worldshare Management Services) and/or archives management systems (e.g., ArchivesSpace) preferred.
Interest in local history, institutional history, rare books, or archives strongly encouraged.

Salary/Salary Range $50,339

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
