Position OverviewSenior Library Specialist – Technical Services. This role oversees daily operations and maintenance of the Central Library Complex, supervises paid and volunteer staff, manages purchases, monitors operating costs, and performs paraprofessional support duties within assigned areas such as reception, circulation, or technical services.ResponsibilitiesSupervise and oversee daily reception and circulation operations of the Central Library ComplexSupervise paid and volunteer library clerks, building maintenance, and security staffParticipate in hiring and training of new staff; schedule staff to meet operating requirements; perform performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actionsMonitor and maintain the automated conveyor belt check‑in systemAuthorize repairs as necessary; contact vendors and oversee quality of work; ensure safe operation of all equipment in the libraryParticipate in the development of the library budget; monitor expenses on a regular basis and authorize procurements within established budgets and guidelinesClosely monitor personnel and operating costs throughout the year; prepare multi‑year forecasts of capital outlay and equipment replacement, along with corresponding costs and justificationSupervise and/or conduct educational programsPrepare promotional materialsAssist library patrons with questions or library equipmentProvide limited reference servicesMonitor building cleanliness and securityMake recommendations for collection acquisitions; perform collection inventoryAttend various community meetings and participate in special events to promote the libraryMaintain and report statistics concerning library usageSort and shelve library materialsAccount for fines and fees collected and process donated materialsQualificationsThis promotional recruitment is only open to current “Regular” City of Huntington Beach employees. Employees who have not completed their INITIAL probationary period are not eligible.Education: An associate's degree in library technical science or a related field; a bachelor's degree in English literature or a related field is preferred.Experience: Two (2) years of library clerical support or related experience.Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.Special Conditions: Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.
