We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Application Developer (Contractor) to support our multi-year Annuity Platform Transformation Initiative within the Annuity Administration Technology organization.
It's a 7-month contract (with potential extension), fully remote, based out of Newport Beach, CA, offering an hourly rate in the range of $75-$82.60 on W-2.

This role will play a critical part in analyzing the current-state architecture of our annuity administration ecosystem, identifying technical debt, documenting system dependencies, and supporting modernization efforts across legacy and emerging platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in large-scale mainframe environments and possesses strong analytical capabilities to help bridge current-state legacy architecture with future-state modernization strategies.
As part of the Annuity Administration Team, you will collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Analysts, Developers, QA Engineers, and cross-functional technology teams supporting core annuity administration platforms including Vantage-One, wmA, FAST, and related enterprise integrations.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in complex enterprise environments and enjoys solving challenging system and integration problems while contributing to long-term transformation initiatives.

How You'll Help Move Us Forward
* Perform in-depth analysis of current-state annuity administration systems, application architecture, batch processes, integrations, and upstream/downstream dependencies.
* Analyze and document existing mainframe business processes, technical workflows, data flows, and system interactions to support modernization planning.
* Partner with Architecture and Product teams to identify technical debt, system inefficiencies, modernization opportunities, and operational risks.
* Review business and system requirements and provide impact analysis for enhancements, modernization initiatives, and strategic transformation programs.
* Design, code, test, debug, document, implement, and maintain mainframe applications and supporting services.
* Support development and maintenance activities across the end-to-end lifecycle of annuity products and administration capabilities.
* Collaborate with distributed teams across Product, Operations, Infrastructure, and Digital platforms to ensure alignment across enterprise initiatives.
* Assist in optimizing batch performance, reducing processing latency, improving operational stability, and enhancing maintainability of legacy applications.
* Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership and guidance on mainframe development standards and best practices.
* Contribute to modernization roadmaps by helping define transition strategies between legacy and future-state platforms.

The Experience You Bring
* 10+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe Application Development, Systems Analysis, or Technical Support within enterprise-scale environments.
* Strong experience supporting annuity or insurance administration platforms such as Vantage-One, wmA, DSS, FAST, or similar policy administration systems.
* Advanced proficiency with COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.
* Strong understanding of mainframe batch architecture, online transaction processing, and enterprise integration patterns.
* Experience performing current-state system analysis, dependency mapping, technical documentation, and impact assessments for modernization initiatives.
* Familiarity with API integrations, distributed systems, cloud modernization concepts, or hybrid architecture environments is highly preferred.
* Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills in complex legacy ecosystems.
* Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple business and technology teams.
* Experience mentoring developers and contributing to development standards, governance, and best practices.
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience supporting large-scale annuity administration or financial services platforms.
