Kforce has a client in Jersey City, NJ that is seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer. Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement application and system level architectures for high performance, resilient mainframe environments
  • Design and develop complex applications, frameworks, and subsystems while providing technical leadership across multiple areas
  • Recommend development tools, testing frameworks, and engineering methodologies to improve quality and productivity
  • Ensure production readiness, quality assurance, performance, and compliance with enterprise standards
  • Author comprehensive documentation including architecture diagrams, integration specs, and modernization playbooks
  • Lead full project lifecycle planning and execution for large scale, cross platform initiatives
  • Identify engineering risks and drive mitigation strategies to ensure system resilience
  • Plan and coordinate complex workstreams, managing cross team schedules and dependencies
  • Serve as a senior liaison to business and technology partners, translating requirements and resolving technical issues
  • Champion production stability by proactively monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving system issues, driving root cause analysis, and ensuring 24/7 reliability for missioncritical brokerage and tax processing workloads

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience (advanced experience preferred)
  • Deep hands on expertise with COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, batch/online processing, IOM, and enterprise batch scheduling tools
  • Extensive experience designing, engineering, and optimizing mission critical mainframe applications.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency across DB2, Oracle, and/or Postgres with strong data analysis and performance debugging skills
  • Proven experience modernizing legacy mainframe systems and integrating with distributed or cloud architectures
  • Ability to deliver complex end to end technical solutions, including specifications, integration designs, and documentation
  • Strong Agile background with the ability to mentor teams and influence technical direction
  • Exceptional analytical, debugging, and cross functional collaboration skills

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
