Job Description Summary

Maintenance Mechanic is a multi-trade technician who works with a team of mechanics to maintain campus buildings and ensure the proper maintenance of all aspects of our operations. The position must have a vocational degree in the electrical trade with multiple years of field experience. Duties include, inspections, installation, repair maintain and monitor building equipment with a working knowledge of electrical systems up to 480 volts. Successful candidates must have experience inspecting, installing, repairing, maintaining and wiring any electrical apparatus or electrical device and circuit of any voltage up to 480 volts. Operates switch gear up to 13,200 volts. Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on motors, pumps, compressors, controls and building automation systems.





Job Description


This position is located in Kennett Square, PA (Chester County) which is approximately 33 miles outside of Philadelphia. There is no public transportation at this location. You must have your own transportation.




Job Responsibilities



+ Inspect, install, repair, maintain, and monitor building equipment with a working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems up to 480 volts, and plumbing equipment.


+ Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on motors, pumps, compressors, controls, and building automation systems.


+ Perform inspections of building aspects to ensure their proper operation.


+ Manage multiple projects to completion, including providing estimates of material costs and determining any equipment necessary to complete a task.


+ Complete repairs to mechanical equipment to resolve equipment breakdowns.


+ Installation of new equipment or completion of construction projects as outlined by the Director of Facilities.


+ Troubleshoot building mechanical systems to determine the cause of equipment failures and return systems to normal operations with minimal downtime.


+ Respond to building occupant requests regarding the operation of the building or their equipment within the building.


+ Other duties and responsibilities as assigned





Qualifications




High School Grad/GE Degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Equivalent vocational training may be substituted for work experience. Professional certifications or licenses are required. Must have experience in the field, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings, and troubleshoot motors, motor starters, and motor controls up to 100 horsepower. Familiarity with HVAC systems, variable frequency drives, and electronic circuitry. Experience with high voltage switchgear operation and systems.




Demonstrated experience performing electrical work as a licensed professional. Demonstrated ability and experience in managing multiple projects to completion in accordance with blueprints and plans. Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to climb and work from ladders or scaffolding. Operation of a University vehicle is required. Must be able to work in a multi-skilled environment and possess a valid driver’s license, free of any state or municipal suspension or revocation. ​




Successful candidates must have experience inspecting, installing, repairing, maintaining, and wiring any electrical apparatus or electrical device and circuit of any voltage up to 480 volts. Operates switch gear up to 13,200 volts.




The schedule is primarily Monday through Friday; however, it will require some weekend work on a rotational basis and must be part of the department's on-call rotation. This position is essential.
