This position leads, plans, and supervises heavy-equipment crews for daily refuse disposal and solid waste transport. You’ll oversee equipment maintenance, manage operational records, and play a critical role in local disaster and emergency response efforts for the Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP).

Responsibilities Include:
  • Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of the crew operating heavy equipment for refuse disposal, collection, and transportation of solid waste.
  • Organizes the crew's tasks, including operating heavy equipment, and evaluates staff workloads. Also, provide coaching and training to the staff.
  • Responsible for coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance on vehicles and equipment, keeping operational records, and managing the maintenance of grounds and facilities.
  • Responds appropriately to a variety of situations, including vehicle incidents, customer service complaints, on-the-job injuries, and safety violations.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the safety protocols and procedures for equipment and vehicles are followed by crew members.
  • Operate and load various heavy equipment and vehicles (CDL and non-CDL), including refuse trucks, forklifts, bobcats, and seasonal maintenance equipment like snowplows and leaf machines.
  • Oversee cash collections and perform reconciliations of receipts using a computerized scale system and maintain operational records.
  • Responsible for providing customer service to both internal and external customers. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Note: Position is designated as Emergency Service Personnel. Employees in this position must fulfill emergency service duties and comply with Solid Waste and DPWES safety programs and guidelines. The appointees to these positions will be required to be available twenty-four hours a day/seven days a week (24/7) to respond to snow, flooding, and other designated emergencies on an as-needed basis.
