The Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for maximizing equipment reliability and minimizing unplanned downtime through preventive and predictive maintenance in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This senior-level role serves as a technical resource for maintenance planning and asset reliability while troubleshooting complex equipment issues, improving PM programs, supporting equipment installations, and providing guidance to other Maintenance Technicians.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure reliable, efficient, and long-term equipment operation
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation-related equipment issues
- Troubleshoot and program PLCs and other industrial control components
- Install and commission DC drives, variable frequency drives (VFDs), temperature controllers, and related equipment
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, machine drawings, PLC documentation, and technical manuals
- Assist Maintenance Technicians with complex repairs, troubleshooting, and diagnostic activities
- Provide technical guidance and training to Maintenance Technicians Levels I-III
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, and implementation of new projects
- Complete preventive maintenance work orders accurately and on schedule within the ERP system
- Monitor PM compliance and support achievement of established maintenance targets
- Identify equipment improvements and upgrades to increase reliability, improve performance, and reduce maintenance costs
- Support root cause analysis of recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions
- Develop, review, and improve PM procedures, troubleshooting guides, maintenance frequencies, and task lists
- Support predictive maintenance programs including vibration analysis, thermography, power quality monitoring, and other condition-monitoring activities
- Perform parameter adjustments for vision inspection systems
- Lead maintenance improvement projects as assigned
- Work with external contractors to ensure compliance with site safety and quality requirements
- Follow all site safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Respond to maintenance and facility emergencies occurring during off shifts as needed
- Promote a proactive maintenance culture focused on equipment reliability, safety, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 8+ years of related maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment, including facility maintenance, equipment repair, and equipment installation
- Advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of PLCs, sensors, VFDs, industrial automation systems, and controls
- Ability to read, interpret, and create basic ladder logic diagrams
- Proficient with electrical and mechanical hand tools
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to troubleshoot across multiple trades and facility systems
- Experience training or providing technical guidance to other maintenance technicians
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP software
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across Production, Engineering, Quality, Facilities, and other teams
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights of 10 20 feet above the plant floor
- Trade experience preferred
- Flexibility to support changing daily maintenance priorities
- Availability for weekend on-call rotation, typically once per month
