The Public Works Department is currently recruiting a Senior Maintenance Worker to join the Operations Division. This a non-exempt position based in the Folsom Sign Shop and is represented by Local 39 IUOE. This position offers a work schedule of 4/10s or 9/80, and must be willing to participate in the on-call rotation after successfully completing probation.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
This ideal candidate has experience with leading, assisting, and scheduling staff who perform specialized sign shop and field maintenance activities, including fabrication, installation, repair, and replacement of regulatory, warning, guide, street name, parking, and other traffic signs.
Under the general supervision from the Streets Operations Supervisor, the Senior Maintenance Worker classification will lead, assist, and schedule staff in general maintenance activities, including routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds, parks, aquatic center, and/or other facilities; semi-skilled construction and maintenance of streets and roadways; specialized maintenance including installation, repair, and maintenance of traffic signs, irrigation systems; collection of residential and commercial refuse and recyclables from the City driving heavy equipment requiring a Class A or B license on a continuous basis, and fertilization and/or pesticide spraying. Incumbents may oversee, monitor, and/or direct the work of lower level personnel.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Senior Maintenance Worker is the lead level in the Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents provide direction to lower level staff including assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of staff. Positions at this level are distinguished from those in the lower classification of Maintenance Specialist by performing lead work. This class is distinguished from the class of Senior Maintenance Specialist in that the latter performs a variety of skilled work in a specific area of expertise requiring special licenses and/or certification for a preponderance of the time.

Education:
High School Diploma, G.E.D, or equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
Experience:
One (1) year of full-time experience as a Maintenance Specialist with the City of Folsom in the designated functional area (grounds and park maintenance; irrigation systems; the aquatic facility; and/or streets operations maintenance).
OR
Two (2) years of full-time experience as a Refuse Driver with the City of Folsom.
OR
Three (3) years of full-time experience performing general maintenance work in the designated functional area (grounds and park maintenance; refuse collection; irrigation systems; aquatic centers/pools; streets operations maintenance, and/or heavy equipment operation).

At the option of the City, persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits, designated licenses, certificates or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and on-call when scheduled. Upon reasonable notice, incumbent may be required to adjust daily schedule based upon seasonal operation demands.
