The City of Rancho Cucamonga is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our Parks and Landscape team as a Senior Maintenance Worker. This position will be working with our Stadium/Westside Parks Crew to preserve our Sports Center while enhancing and maintaining the Citys Westside parks.

Applicants need to be knowledgeable and proficient in basic horticultural methods and procedures. Applicants need to have good communication and interpersonal skills and must be fluent in English both verbally and in writing. Applicants must be experienced with and have the ability to apply the theory and use of ET based Central Irrigation Systems; be able to design and draft modifications to existing irrigation systems; understand both hydraulic and electrical theory; have a good working knowledge of soil types and plant water use requirements; and be able to troubleshoot, make repairs, and perform installations to large irrigation systems within parks and landscape right-of- ways as well as within irrigation controller cabinets. The ability to meet the public in situations requiring diplomacy and tact. Desirable (but not required) certification, knowledge, skills and abilities include: the ability to communicate in Spanish; a Water Auditor Certification; Certified Irrigation Technician Certification (CLCA); an ISA Arborist Certification; a Qualified Applicators Certificate (QAC) with categories B & C; contract supervision experience; and a class "A" or "B" drivers license.
Under general supervision, performs skilled maintenance in the conduct of a specialized public works maintenance program; may direct and train others in the performance of maintenance activities; performs related duties as required.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED
Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from high school supplemented by training in the assigned area of specialty; two years of experience performing public works maintenance including similar experience to that of the assigned maintenance program or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of equipment operation, techniques and methods used in the area of specialization. Ability to work independently, and direct and train others engaged in the area of specialization; operate equipment used in the assigned maintenance program; read and interpret blueprints, work sketches and specialized maps; prepare work records and routine reports; understand and follow verbal and written directions; work safely and efficiently; meet the public in situations requiring diplomacy and tact; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.
Certification by the International Society of Arboriculture or National Arborist Association as a Treeworker for those positions working in tree maintenance.
Certification by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation as an Applicator in the appropriate categories for those positions working in applications.
Desirable Qualifications:
The ability to communicate fluently in both English and in Spanish. The possession of a traffic control certificate. Completion of college coursework in business communications, arboriculture, soil science, turf management, horticulture, landscape construction, pest management, and plant/weed/pest identification. A California Motor Vehicle "Class A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
