Role

We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead the operations and evolution of our Databricks analytics platform and broader business intelligence ecosystem.

This role will serve as a technical platform owner for Databricks, with particular focus on Databricks AI/BI and Genie, while also ensuring the reliable operation, governance, and lifecycle management of our existing enterprise BI platforms, including Spotfire, Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on Databricks platform administration experience with expertise in modern analytics, AI/BI, governance, and enterprise BI technologies. This individual will help evolve the organization from traditional dashboard-based analytics toward governed, metadata-driven, conversational and self-service analytics experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, operate, and continuously improve the enterprise Databricks platform, ensuring a secure, reliable, scalable, and well-governed analytics environment.
  • Manage Databricks workspace configuration, access and entitlements, compute and SQL warehouses, Unity Catalog integration, platform policies, monitoring, performance, and cost optimization.
  • Establish and maintain platform standards, operational procedures, monitoring, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management for Databricks analytics capabilities.
  • Serve as the technical lead and platform specialist for Databricks AI/BI and Genie, driving the design, configuration, governance, deployment, and adoption of conversational analytics capabilities.
  • Partner with data product owners, engineers, analysts, and data stewards to ensure Genie has the metadata, semantic context, business definitions, trusted data products, and governance required to deliver reliable answers.
  • Develop standards and reusable patterns for Genie and AI/BI, including semantic definitions, instructions, example queries, trusted assets, access controls, testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement of response quality.
  • Own and maintain the broader enterprise BI platform ecosystem, including Spotfire, Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI, ensuring platform availability, security, access management, upgrades, integrations, licensing, performance, and vendor support.
  • Rationalize BI platform usage, establish enterprise standards, and reduce unnecessary tool fragmentation while supporting existing business-critical analytics solutions.
  • Ensure tight integration between Databricks, Unity Catalog, transformation and semantic layers, and downstream BI and analytics experiences.
  • Partner with Enterprise Data Governance, Security, Infrastructure, and domain data teams to establish appropriate platform controls, policies, and operating models.
  • Monitor platform usage, adoption, performance, reliability, and cost, and use these insights to continuously improve the analytics platform experience.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging Databricks and analytics capabilities where they can improve self-service, governance, productivity, or user experience.
  • Act as a technical escalation point and trusted advisor for analytics platform capabilities across the organization.
  • Drive adoption of modern analytics capabilities while maintaining reliable support for existing enterprise BI platforms.

Qualifications
  • BS degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Bioinformatics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in data platforms, analytics platforms, business intelligence, or related technical roles.
  • 3+ years of experience administering or operating enterprise-scale analytics or data platforms.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering Databricks environments, including workspace administration, identity and access management, compute, SQL warehouses, platform configuration, monitoring, security, and operational support.
  • Strong experience with Unity Catalog, including catalogs, schemas, permissions, governance, lineage, and integration with enterprise data governance practices.
  • Experience with Databricks AI/BI and Genie, or strong experience with comparable conversational analytics, semantic-layer, or natural-language-query technologies.
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of data modeling, analytics engineering, and modern data architecture.
  • Experience operating and supporting enterprise BI platforms such as Spotfire, Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI. Deep expertise in every platform is not required, but candidates should have demonstrated experience administering and supporting enterprise BI technologies.
  • Understanding of semantic modeling, metadata management, data lineage, and how business context enables AI-powered analytics.
  • Experience with platform monitoring, performance optimization, incident/problem management, release management, and cost optimization.
  • Experience with automation, APIs, scripting, infrastructure-as-code, or CI/CD for data and analytics platforms preferred.
  • Experience working in regulated industries such as biotechnology or pharmaceuticals preferred.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to translate business analytics needs into scalable platform capabilities.
