The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Senior Estimating Manager to join our Fire Protection team in Seattle, WA. In this role, you will lead estimating work across multiple projects and/or regions, providing strategic direction, governance, and delivery oversight for accurate, competitive, and risk-informed cost proposals. Some responsibilities you will have include:

  • Set estimating strategy, standards, and governance for pursuit and preconstruction efforts; ensure consistent deliverables, documentation, and compliance with internal controls and client requirements.
  • Direct end-to-end estimate development for complex, high-value, and/or multi-discipline scopes, including bid strategy, quantity verification, subcontractor outreach, indirects, escalation, risk/contingency modeling, and value engineering.
  • Lead, coach, and develop an estimating team; establish workload planning, training, and performance expectations; drive talent pipeline and succession planning.
  • Partner with Operations, Project Controls, Procurement, and Finance to align estimate-to-budget handoff, cost codes, and baseline assumptions; ensure traceability from estimate through execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement of estimating tools, databases, and processes (historical cost benchmarking, productivity analytics, lessons learned), improving accuracy, cycle time, and margin performance.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • 12+ years relevant work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating methodologies
  • Ability to lead complex pursuits: scope analysis, constructability, risk identification, contingency development, value engineering, and executive-level estimate reviews.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to translate assumptions into defensible narratives for proposals and client presentations.
  • People leadership capability: hiring, coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and development of estimating standards and training programs.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff tools (as applicable), spreadsheets and cost databases, and reporting/visualization to communicate cost drivers and scenario comparisons.
  • Bachelor's degree in related subject preferred. Relevant industry experience may be be substituted.

The pay range for this position is $118,170 - $210,100 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
