Job Summary:

Comtech is seeking an experienced New Product Introduction (NPI) Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team through the critical phase of bringing new satellite communication products from concept to commercialization. This role requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of satellite communication technologies, manufacturing processes, and project management. The ideal candidate will ensure that new products are designed for manufacturability, meet the highest quality standards, and are introduced into the market efficiently and effectively.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead our production test departments and the NPI manufacturing engineering team, setting goals, tracking performance and developing project plans to ensure smooth processing of products released to manufacturing and the successful launch of new satellite communication products.
  • Oversee test and manufacturing engineering team within operations to support manufacturing and ensure specifications are met.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, product management, and production teams to influence product design for manufacturability, ensuring all new products adhere to the highest standards of quality and reliability.
  • Able to resolve technical issues on the manufacturing floor 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive manufacturing strategies for new products, including process development, tooling, equipment selection, and facility layout, specifically tailored for the unique requirements of satellite communications manufacturing.
  • Drive the transition of products from design to production, optimizing manufacturing processes for scalability and cost-effectiveness without compromising on quality or performance.
  • Foster innovation within the team to explore new manufacturing technologies and processes that can enhance product quality and production efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations and quality standards, including ISO 9001, AS9100, or other relevant aerospace and satellite communications standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste, improve productivity, and enhance product quality.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance and support to strengthen their skills and expertise in satellite communications manufacturing engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in satellite communications technology and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing processes, such as soldering, crimping, metal forming and machining
  • Proven track record of successfully managing NPI projects from concept through to production.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a high-performing engineering team.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a knack for strategic planning and attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of high-power microwave amplifiers and digital modems. 
  • Certifications in Project Management, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other quality management systems relevant to the aerospace and satellite communications industry.

Education 

  • Bachelor of Science degree or Master’s degree Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field 

Experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within the satellite communications, aerospace, or high-tech electronics sector.

The pay range reflects the expected base salary for this position. Final compensation will be based on role, level, skills, experience, and geographic location.
