Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together.

As Schwab continues to prioritize retirement as a key strategic growth area, dedicated compliance support is needed to address the evolving needs of both employer-sponsored and individual retirement channels, which are increasingly interconnected across products, platforms, advice models, client segments, and regulatory frameworks.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for supporting, advising, questioning, and challenging business partners and leaders advancing this work with a goal of promoting a culture of compliance in this evolving space. The Senior Manager will also partner with Compliance colleagues in representing the needs and interests of Schwab Retail Retirement in broader enterprise initiatives.

Effective challenge is the critical analysis of inputs, processes and outputs associated with risk management activities, by informed independent parties to ensure current and emerging risks are well understood, objectively evaluated, and escalated as appropriate. Effective challenge encompasses the evaluation of the conceptual soundness of identified and assessed risks; adequacy of mitigation and controls; relevancy of risk metrics and limits; and consistency of risk reporting and escalation. Enterprise-wide thinking is an approach that considers the entire organization, rather than an individual business or entity. It involves the holistic view of regulatory impact and business strategies. Collaboration, open communication, and alignment across teams are drivers for success. Enterprise-wide thinking means taking a big picture view.

This is an individual contributor position.

As a Senior Manager you will:

  • Support the business and Compliance leadership in the production of requisite work product and day-to-day deliverables.

  • Provide reliable, insightful, practical, and actionable feedback on Retirements regulatory matters.

  • Consistently deliver effective challenge at all levels in influencing the way issues and concerns are addressed.

  • Build and maintain working relationships with associated business leaders as well as partners in First Line Risk, Compliance, Legal, and other areas of Corporate Risk Management.

  • Actively monitor, interpret, communicate, and apply new and existing regulations to the work of Retirements business groups.

  • Participate in projects that support the broader efforts of Retirements Compliance.

  • Collaborating and coordinating with peers across Schwab Compliance, other Corporate Risk Management colleagues, internal audit, and first line of defense business partners.

  • Actively participating in various working groups and effectively challenging business partners when appropriate.

  • Execute other duties as assigned.

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years industry experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a Compliance or Risk role.

  • Strong regulatory knowledge of broker-dealer standards and/or ERISA, fiduciary, and DOL guidelines, application and documentation for qualified retirement plans and rollover recommendation requirements.

  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, with a focus on delivery and execution.

  • Client focused; able to build relationships and establish trust, respect, competence, and confidence effectively and quickly.

  • A degree or equivalent experience is required; post-secondary degree (e.g., JD, MBA or equivalent) viewed favorably.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relationship-oriented leader who manages complex, multistakeholder issues with resilience, embraces others' perspectives and understands the limits of their own points of view.

  • Provides a clear, independent risk management perspective in accordance with the Board-approved risk appetite.

  • Persuasive communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver verbal and written communications that are clear, concise, and impactful with their intended audience.

  • Strategic thinker who can anticipate the implications and consequences of situations and take appropriate action to be prepared for possible contingencies.
