As a Senior Technical Manager in Software Engineering, you will be responsible for providing project definition and implementation through hands-on management of software development teams leveraging Agile Scrum development and project management best practices defined by the company. You will undertake the execution of software development projects to achieve the company’s strategic objectives and must work closely with Product Leaders & other managers.

CoStar is investing heavily in artificial intelligence to accelerate software delivery, improve platform observability, automate research and business workflows, enhance product experiences through intelligent agents and skills, and improve data quality across enterprise systems. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to learn, adopt, and apply AI technologies responsibly to solve complex business and engineering challenges.

This position is located in Richmond, VA and offers a schedule of Monday to Thursday in office and the option to work from home on Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for architecture, project ownership, and team leadership.
  • Lead team(s) of talented software developers in building applications and platforms using modern Typescript, React, NodeJS, .NET Core, SQL Server, and AWS technologies.
  • Act as a player-coach, who can mentor & coach highly productive team members.
  • Promote can-do attitude, engineering mindset and collaboration as fundamental team values.
  • Drive continuous improvement by focusing on engineering excellence.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices to improve developer productivity, code quality, platform reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Leverage AI-powered monitoring, anomaly detection, replayability, and observability capabilities to improve system resiliency, incident response, root cause analysis, and customer experience.
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to identify opportunities for intelligent processes that reduce manual effort, accelerate sales workflows, and improve operational effectiveness across CoStar platforms.
  • Lead teams in designing, implementing, and governing AI-powered solutions including skills, agents, tools, and workflow automations that enhance both internal productivity and customer-facing products.
  • Promote responsible AI adoption by ensuring solutions adhere to security, privacy, governance, and quality standards.
  • Manage and coordinate projects within teams and across departments.
  • Work directly with senior leaders in Sales Organizations and Product Leaders to design applications that amaze your customers.
  • Apply sound quality management methods, tools and techniques to create and support defect-free application software that meets the needs of the organization
  • Act as "Voice of the Customer" when participating in product readiness reviews

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person university or college
  • Full stack development experience
  • 2+ years of team leadership experience
  • A demonstrable track record of building and launching successful products
  • Experience using Typescript, Elastic, C#, SQL Server, and AWS technologies
  • Proficiency in Continuous Delivery best practices
  • Understanding AI technologies and has hands on experience in AI adoption and development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to communicate at a level appropriate to the audience (direct reports, peers and senior management)
  • Ability to motivate and build high performance software development teams.
  • Familiarity with modern AI platforms, large language models (LLMs), agent orchestration frameworks, or AI-assisted development tools.
  • Understanding of observability, monitoring, replayability, telemetry analysis, and automated incident detection platforms.
  • Track record of commitment to prior employers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading products throughout the software development life cycle
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React
  • Experience developing or managing AI-powered applications, agents, tools, search experiences, or intelligent automation platforms.
  • Experience leveraging AI to improve software engineering productivity, operational monitoring, research workflows, and data stewardship.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted data quality solutions including deduplication, enrichment, classification, anomaly detection, and entity matching.
  • Familiar with Marketing Eco-Systems such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud or Pardot is a bonus. ​

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.

Base Compensation: $216,000.00-$261,000.00 Annually
