Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on driving manufacturing excellence for complex electro-mechanical and electronic products in a high-tech environment. You will lead the transition of products from prototype to high-volume production, optimize manufacturing processes through automation and Lean methodologies, and ensure that design, production, and testing are tightly aligned. The position requires close collaboration with hardware and firmware engineering, production planning, and cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable, and efficient manufacturing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Partner with hardware and firmware engineering teams to ensure design decisions account for manufacturing constraints, component availability, and test requirements.
- Provide manufacturing input during product roadmap reviews to identify and flag process, tooling, or contract manufacturer readiness risks early.
- Collaborate with the Production Scheduler to translate engineering changes and new product introduction (NPI) timelines into realistic and achievable production plans.
- Lead the transition of complex electro-mechanical and hardware systems from prototype builds to stable, high-volume manufacturing.
- Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing automation solutions to improve throughput, quality, and cost efficiency.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, value stream mapping, and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes, eliminate waste, and improve yield.
- Conduct root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implement corrective and preventive actions to resolve production issues and improve product reliability.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that manufacturing processes meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize PLM, ERP, and MES systems to manage engineering changes, process documentation, and production data.
- Support process engineering activities, including defining process parameters, standard work, and continuous improvement initiatives for electronic product manufacturing and testing.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 7-10+ years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role within a high-tech manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience in electronic products manufacturing and testing.
- Proven track record of transitioning complex electro-mechanical or hardware systems from prototype to high-volume production.
- Manufacturing automation experience, with a strong focus on automated processes and equipment in a production environment.
- Strong understanding of value stream mapping and its application in process optimization.
- Proficiency with PLM software such as Windchill or Arena.
- Familiarity with ERP and MES systems for managing production planning and execution.
- Deep understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and their practical implementation on the shop floor.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies; Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is preferred.
- Experience with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
- Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis (RCA) and root cause failure analysis in a manufacturing context.
- Strong analytical mindset with a passion for troubleshooting complex, multi-disciplinary problems.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
- Industrial engineering background is strongly preferred, particularly with experience in process optimization and systems thinking.
- Experience with electromechanical systems and process engineering in a high-tech environment.
- Exposure to advanced manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment focused on cutting-edge electronics for credentialing and access control.
- Comfort working with cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, operations, and production planning.
