Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Factory Optimization & Continuous Improvement
Improve Factory Performance. Increase Throughput. Optimize Manufacturing.
Newark, NJ, Full-Time | Onsite
Estimated Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000+ (calibrate based on experience)
Hours: 7:30am-4:30pm
We're transforming how we manufacture.
As we continue expanding our domestic manufacturing capabilities, we're bringing more production in-house, investing in new equipment, expanding manufacturing capacity, and continuously improving how our factory operates.
We're looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer who doesn't simply support production—but constantly challenges how the factory performs.
This role exists to identify opportunities others don't see, question existing processes, validate manufacturing investments, and continuously improve throughput, labor productivity, material utilization, factory flow, and operational performance.
If you're the type of engineer who walks through a factory thinking, "There's a better way to do this," you'll thrive here.
What You'll Own
Factory Performance
Own the ongoing improvement of manufacturing performance across the operation.
• Identify bottlenecks limiting throughput, productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
• Analyze manufacturing performance and uncover opportunities to improve how the factory operates.
• Validate that engineering initiatives deliver measurable operational and financial results.
• Continuously challenge existing processes and recommend smarter ways of working.
Factory Optimization
Improve the physical operation of the manufacturing facility.
• Optimize production layouts, equipment placement, work cells, and manufacturing flow.
• Improve space utilization while supporting future manufacturing expansion.
• Evaluate alternative layouts and recommend the highest-performing solution.
• Reduce unnecessary movement, transportation, and operational inefficiencies throughout the factory.
Throughput, Labor & Material Performance
Improve manufacturing productivity through practical engineering solutions.
• Increase production throughput while maintaining quality and safety.
• Improve labor utilization through workflow optimization, process improvements, and manufacturing automation.
• Improve material yield while reducing scrap and unnecessary waste.
• Identify engineering opportunities that lower manufacturing costs and improve operational performance.
Manufacturing Improvement Projects
Lead projects that create measurable operational improvements.
• Lead manufacturing improvement initiatives from concept through implementation.
• Evaluate production performance before and after implementation to ensure expected business results are achieved.
• Develop engineering solutions that improve factory performance, manufacturing consistency, and long-term scalability.
• Utilize structured problem solving, root cause analysis, and data to support decision making.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Work across the organization to improve manufacturing performance.
• Partner with Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Operations.
• Build credibility through technical expertise, collaboration, and execution.
• Influence manufacturing decisions using data and measurable business outcomes.
Must-Haves
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Proven manufacturing engineering experience within a production environment.
• Demonstrated success improving throughput, labor productivity, material utilization, manufacturing efficiency, or operational performance.
• Experience optimizing production layouts, manufacturing flow, or factory utilization.
• Experience leading manufacturing improvement projects from concept through implementation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive operational improvements.
• Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing operations on the production floor.
Preferred Experience
• Factory layout optimization
• Material flow analysis
• Manufacturing automation
• Lean Manufacturing
• Value Stream Mapping
• Capital equipment implementation
• AutoCAD or manufacturing layout software
• Building Products, Cabinetry, Furniture, Wood Products, Industrial Manufacturing, Consumer Products, Packaging, Medical Device, or other discrete manufacturing environments.
Success Metrics
Success in this role will be measured by:
• Increased production throughput
• Improved labor productivity
• Improved material utilization and reduced scrap
• Improved factory layout and space utilization
• Improved manufacturing flow and equipment utilization
• Reduced operational waste and manufacturing costs
• Successful implementation and validation of manufacturing improvement projects
• Measurable engineering-driven operational savings
• Improved scalability of manufacturing operations
