Job Summary

Hiring Range: $70,366.40 - 89,369.28/Year. It is anticipated that the hiring rate offered will be +/- the midpoint range depending on qualifications.Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position is under the direct supervision of the Marine Assets Marine Engineer to assist in the planning and budgeting of all maintenance and repairs of the Ports boats. This will include, but is not limited to, overseeing all maintenance and minor repairs of the main propulsion diesel engines, generators, auxiliary pumps, outboard motors, fire pumps, fire suppression systems, pneumatic/hydraulic systems and electronics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees the Preventive Maintenance Plan for all marine assets

Oversees performance of Marine Technicians who complete preventative maintenance, calibrations, adjustments and minor repairs to the main propulsion diesel engines, generators, auxiliary pumps, outboard motors, fire pumps, fire suppression systems, pneumatic/hydraulic systems and electronics.

Maintains equipment history records

Reads, interprets and follows owners manual/manufacturers maintenance recommendations

Researches parts, materials and equipment necessary to complete jobs

Ensures accurate, up-to-date inventory of tools and equipment

Directs and trains assigned team in daily general preventative maintenance

Assures mechanics' work area, tools and equipment are cleaned upon completion of assignments

Ensures team members are properly attired daily with proper protective equipment

Plans work accordingly while taking into account importance of asset versus prevailing weather conditions

Plans and projects needs and changes to meet anticipated shifting conditions and performs other marine asset duties as required by the Marine Engineer

Adheres to PCCA policy and department procedures

Maintains good employee relations and promotes teamwork

Promotes safety awareness and environmental consciousness and complies with all applicable safety and environmental procedures and regulations

Drives Port-owned vehicles as necessary to complete assigned tasks

Subject to random, post incident/accident, reasonable suspicion and rehabilitation monitoring drug and alcohol testing consistent with PCCA Substance Use & Abuse Policy

Works, on average, eight hours per day Monday - Friday.

Subject to recall on weekends, holidays and evenings though rare

Subject to recall to duty at any time in the event of a critical incident

CPR certified or ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment

Tier 2 status designation

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining integrity in support of the PCCA. Candidate must possess the following:

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS

Valid U.S. driver's license

High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred

Formal marine diesel engine repair school preferred or similar work history will be considered

Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment

EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE

Caterpillar C18 and Cummins QSC marine diesel engines

Suzuki Outboards

Caterpillar and Westerbeke diesel generators

24V and 12V DC shipboard electrical systems

Firefighting foam pump systems

5+ years marine diesel technician experience desired

Experience with marine preventative maintenance systems

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Ability to write reports/correspondence, and speak effectively before employees

Ability to ability to speak, read and write English, interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals

Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate in a clear and concise manner with other mechanics, technicians, supervisors and management team

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Hands-on, self-motivator with an excellent work-ethic approach and strong technical knowledge and skills

Effective collaboration, partnership and problem-solving skills

Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel, Outlook and other applications

Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all PCCA policies

Promotes and adheres to the SEAPORT values including local/state/federal laws.

Maintains good employee relations; encourages and fosters an environment where teamwork prevails. Assists senior management and office staff where appropriate.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined, climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work stands. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp/handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders. Must be able to maintain balance while underway on a boat.

Ability to work in a general office environment, and on a work site with exposure to adverse weather conditions, fumes and /or air particulates, working in high precarious places, risk of electrical shock and moving mechanical parts, moderate noise levels and working at heights, ability to wear personnel protective equipment, including hard hat, steel-toed footwear, eye and hearing protection when performing work functions

Ability to operate mechanical and electrical equipment and light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed.
