Our engineering team is small, senior, and deliberate — this is a rare chance to get in on the ground floor and shape how a category‑defining product gets built.The RoleRemote Work Available: Fully remote options are available for this role but must be in the U.S.Salary Range: $120,000–$160,000Must have U.S. Work Authorization.Must be U.S. Person due to export control regulations (defined as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).As our Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will own the thermomechanical design and physical realization of our motors — turning validated electromagnetic designs into manufacturable, structurally sound, thermally managed hardware that survives high‑speed operation and proves itself on the dyno. You will be the mechanical backbone of both our 15kW scale model and our 150kW full‑scale prototype, and you will build the in‑house prototyping and test capability that lets us iterate fast and cheaply.Simulations only become a real motor when someone makes the rotor hold together at 11,000 RPM, keeps the windings cool enough to hit 97% efficiency, and builds the rigs that prove it. That someone is you.What You'll OwnThis role is defined by outcomes, not a laundry list of tasks. In your first 12–18 months, you will:Design the mechanical heart of the 150kW prototype — rotor structural integrity to 11,000 RPM with solid margin, the bearing and shaft system, housing, and a package that hits our aggressive mass target — validated by FEA and confirmed on test.Own the thermal management system that keeps the motor within limits at rated load and enables sustained 97% efficiency, with models correlated tightly to real test data.Stand up our in‑house prototyping and test capability — the dyno rigs, fixtures, instrumentation, and repeatable procedures that cut our dependence on outside test houses and shorten every iteration.Deliver manufacturing‑ready documentation — clean prints with proper GD&T, BOMs, and PLM‑managed revisions — and manage fabrication vendors from RFQ through part acceptance on cost, quality, and lead time.Prove the concept on the 15kW scale model first, then scale it — and contribute patentable mechanical and thermal innovations to our growing IP portfolio.What You BringWe are looking for an A‑player with a track record of turning hard mechanical problems into shipped hardware. You have:A Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) and a proven record leading design projects from concept to realized, tested hardware in a professional setting.High‑speed rotating machinery experience — you understand rotordynamics, critical speeds, balancing, bearing selection, and containment, and how centrifugal stress and thermal growth interact in a spinning rotor.Deep structural, thermal, and fluid‑dynamics simulation skills — and the judgment to know when a model can be trusted and when it must be confirmed by test.Strong CAD, PLM, and print‑preparation skills with rigorous GD&T, and a design‑for‑manufacturability mindset from the first sketch.Hands‑on test engineering chops — you have built rigs, fixtures, and instrumentation from scratch and used the data to close the loop on design.The operating style of an early‑stage builder — you own projects end to end, thrive on ambiguity, prioritize ruthlessly, communicate clearly, and report results with total intellectual honesty.Bonus PointsMaster's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.Automotive or aerospace experience, especially with traction motors or high‑speed machinery.Mechatronic / electromechanical systems design.Composites design and fabrication.Full product development from concept through large‑scale manufacturing.Startup or scrum‑team experience, and familiarity with electric‑motor standards and regulations.Why You'll Want This JobIt matters.
