This individual will focus on designing mechanical engineering solutions for new and existing complex plants and systems, high rise design, smoke control systems, hybrid plants and similar complex systems. This role entails leading the design and development of mechanical engineering solutions and intensive coordination efforts with other disciplines. Much of time is spent mentoring other individuals, in review of engineering drawings, teaching of specific topics in the department, pushing innovative ideas for further design efficiency. This ideal candidate will also have plumbing and fire protection knowledge and familiarity with plumbing and fire protection design.Core Competencies and ResponsibilitiesEngineeringPerform detailed mechanical surveysPerform engineering tasks and work with engineers and designers to produce projects in designAble to bring multiple project types to completion from design inception to construction closeoutPerform Construction Administration including but not limited to site observation reports, punch list, submittals and RFI responsesAble to troubleshoot complex field mechanical issuesResearch and prepare mechanical engineering reports for feasibility studies, life cycle analysis, and other similar reportsClientUnderstands complex mechanical engineering principals used in design and confidently discuss them with internal and external clientsParticipates in business development activitiesProject PerformanceCompletes engineering tasks within the project budgetCompletes engineering tasks to meet the project scheduleIs able to provide feedback to supervisors, project managers, and principals related to project performanceAddress change orders and prepares responses to clientCapable of estimating required engineering hours to complete a tasks and prepare corresponding engineering feesThere may be direct supervisory responsibilities associated with this positionStudio directors may assign engineers, associates or co-ops to be under your supervisionTechnical CapabilitiesUnderstands and can apply hydronic piping engineering principals to systems and plants providing condenser water, geothermal, chilled water, hot water, steam, and refrigerantUnderstands and can apply design principals of hydronic systems and plantsUnderstands building pressure and stack effect and can engineer systems to address building pressure including life safety systems for hoist way and stairwell pressurization and smoke controlCreates and understands all aspects of single line diagramsDevelop engineering sketches or schematics, layouts, details and/or drawingsUnderstands and can proficiently reference and apply applicable codesUnderstands and can apply SMACNA standards to all ductwork pressure classes and typeAble to edit Mechanical specificationsPerform advanced building, system, and plant level HVAC calculations for complicated systemsResearch and prepare reports for feasibility studies, life cycle cost analysis and other similar reportsPerforms and demonstrates HVAC energy compliance using energy compliance software and provide supporting documentationQualificationsLicensureProfessional Engineering license is requiredMembershipRecommended memberships and participation in professional organizations include:ASHRAESMACNACertificationsRecommended certifications include but are not limited to:LEED APWell BuildingASHRAE Commissioning Professional (BCxP)ASHRAE Assessment Professional (BEAP)ASHRAE Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP)ASHRAE High Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP)ASHRAE Certified HVAC Designer (CHD)Experience10+ years working in an MEP engineering consulting firm on multiple building types6+ years working as a licensed professional engineerProject experience across multiple market segments preferred (Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Civic, Retail)Computer SkillsProficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and TeamsProficient in Autodesk RevitDemonstrate acceptance of responsibility; show pride in work performed; demonstrate flexibility in acceptance of assignments and schedules; maintain professional behavior and appearance; exhibit dependabilityAbout KLH EngineersFounded in 1955 and nationally ranked among the top engineering firms, KLH Engineers is redefining excellence in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology design.
