ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - ASME Lead for a leading advanced nuclear reactor development program, which would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in ASME Section III nuclear design and pressure boundary component engineering looking to further their career in next-generation reactor technology.
- Perform detailed design, analysis, and documentation for ASME Section III Class HB pressure boundary components, including vessels, piping, valves, heat exchangers, and associated subcomponents.
- Prepare design specifications, design reports, stress analyses, and code compliance calculations in accordance with ASME Section III rules and applicable NRC guidance.
- Conduct pressure boundary evaluations covering fatigue, thermal, seismic, and time-dependent material behavior.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define design requirements, resolve technical issues, and optimize component performance.
- Interface with quality teams, third-party reviewers, and regulatory bodies to support audits, design reviews, and code certification processes.
- Support fabrication drawings, weld requirements, inspection criteria, material selection, and acceptance standards for pressure boundary components.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and maintain current knowledge of ASME Section III revisions and NRC guidance.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; minimum 8 years of equipment/component design experience (relevant M.S. credited as 2 years).
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
- Hands-on experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, including certifying Design Specifications and Design Reports for nuclear pressure-retaining components.
- Deep understanding of ASME Section III, NQA-1, and related NRC regulations.
- Proficiency in finite element stress analysis and commercial mechanical stress analysis tools, with emphasis on ANSYS.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of integrity and collaborative work ethic.
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Natrium Generation IV or other advanced reactor programs.
- Background in regulated nuclear fabrication, inspection, or nonconformance evaluation processes.
- Familiarity with ANSI/ANS 3.1 qualification requirements and nuclear licensing deliverables.
