Merrick is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing Business Unit. This full-time, direct hire position, will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications and associated construction administration.

 

This position can be located in any of the following offices: Greenwood Village, CO; Tulsa, OK; Chattanooga, TN; Richmond, VA; Newport News, VA; Ellicott City, MD. A hybrid work schedule will be supported.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing team, you will play a key role in delivering complex engineering projects within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. This position is responsible for overseeing mechanical engineering deliverables, performing engineering calculations, selecting systems and equipment, and developing mechanical designs. You will also manage project budgets and schedules, maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders, and collaborate closely with engineering and technical teams to ensure successful project execution and achievement of overall project objectives.

 

In this role you will:

  • Leadmechanicalengineeringdesignforbioprocessing,oil&gas,chemical,power,andindustrialfacilityprojects.
  • Develop basisofdesigndocumentsandensurecompliancewithclientrequirements,industrystandards,andapplicablecodes(IBC,ASME,API,PIP,NFPA,etc.).
  • Prepare scopesofwork,supportproposals,andcollaboratewithclientstoevaluatecostsandidentifyvalueengineeringopportunities.
  • Interpret projectrequirementsandoverseeallaspectsofmechanicaldesign,includingequipment,piping,andsystemselection.
  • Perform andreviewengineeringcalculations,equipmentsizing,andcode-compliantsystemdesigns.
  • Direct pipingdesignactivities,including3Dmodeling,pipestressanalysis,P&IDs,pipingplans,specifications,andisometrics.
  • Ensure adherencetoqualityassuranceproceduresandtechnicalexcellencethroughoutprojectexecution.
  • Prepare andreviewconstructiondocuments,specifications,equipmentdatasheets,andengineeringdeliverables.
  • Provide construction-phasesupportbyresolvingfieldissues,respondingtoRFIs,andconductingsiteinspectionsasneeded.
  • Manage mechanicalengineeringbudgets,schedules,andscopewhilesupportingsuccessfulprojectdeliveryandprofitability.
  • Collaborate withprojectmanagers,engineers,designers,clients,andcontractorstoachieveprojectobjectives.
  • Mentor anddevelopjuniorengineersanddesigners.
  • Maintain professionallicensurerequirementsandpursueongoingtechnicalandprofessionaldevelopment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from ABET accredited program required.
  • 12+ years industry experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain your PE within the first year of employment.
  • Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.
  • Significant pipe stress analysis experience utilizing software such as CAESAR II.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers on design projects.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Significant experience with oil and gas, petrochemical, bioprocessing or power facility design.
  • Extensive design experience in piping engineering, pipe supports, equipment layouts and detailed piping design.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.1, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes, PIP and API codes.
  • Experience in managing personnel and project engineering.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Travel to project sites and equipment fabricator shop locations.
  • Walking down plant systems and equipment, which includes climbing ladders and stairs.
