Senior Mechanical Engineer (HVAC & Plumbing)Washington, D.C., District of Columbia, United StatesAbout the job Senior Mechanical Engineer (HVAC & Plumbing)ROLE OVERVIEW:A leading engineering consulting organization is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong HVAC and plumbing design experience to join its Washington, DC office.This role offers the opportunity to step into a leadership position within a growing mechanical team while collaborating with a broader national network. The ideal candidate will provide senior-level engineering leadership, drive high-quality design, mentor team members, and serve as a key representative during client engagements.This position supports projects across multi-family, commercial, and government sectors.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide mentorship and guidance to mechanical engineers and designersDevelop and manage project work plans and schedulesLead system selection, establish basis of design, and ensure quality deliverablesParticipate in project meetings and communicate effectively with internal teamsRepresent the mechanical discipline in client-facing meetingsCoordinate mechanical and plumbing designs with other disciplines and project managersSupport construction phases, including submittal reviews and RFI responsesMaintain and enhance mechanical and plumbing design standardsAssist leadership with quality control and continuous improvement initiativesServe as a senior technical resource across HVAC and plumbing designCollaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design challengesQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of 8 years of mechanical and plumbing design experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) license preferredProficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office SuiteExperience with Trane Trace or similar load calculation softwareStrong communication and presentation skillsAbility to interact confidently with clients, stakeholders, and internal teamsCOMPENSATION:In compliance with Washington pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this position is $130,000–$155,000.
