This role owns mechanical design from concept through production and works closely with electrical, RF, firmware, product management, quality, sourcing, manufacturing, and external suppliers. The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on design capability with sound engineering judgment, rigorous analysis, and a practical design-for-manufacturing mindset.Position Overview Lead the mechanical design of complex products, parts, enclosures, and assemblies from requirements definition and concept development through prototyping, qualification, tooling, production release, and sustaining engineering.Translate product, RF, electrical, thermal, environmental, regulatory, cost, and manufacturing requirements into robust mechanical architectures and detailed designs.Create and maintain production-ready 3D models, 2D drawings, tolerance analyses, bills of materials, and technical specifications using SolidWorks.Apply design for manufacturing and assembly principles across injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, die casting, extrusion, additive manufacturing, and related processes.Perform and document structural, thermal, airflow, and other relevant simulations; correlate analytical results with prototype and qualification testing.Define mechanical verification and validation plans, design test fixtures, oversee environmental and mechanical testing, and document results and corrective actions.Lead design reviews, tolerance stack-up analyses, and DFMEA activities to identify risks early and drive them to closure.Partner with suppliers, contract manufacturers, sourcing, and quality teams on material selection, tooling, manufacturability, cost, yield, and production readiness.Manage CAD files, drawings, BOMs, engineering change orders, and product configuration within PDM and PLM systems while maintaining accurate revision control.Investigate field and production issues using disciplined root-cause analysis and implement durable corrective and preventive actions.Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical design standards, tools, and processes.Education/Certifications/ExperienceBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.Seven or more years of mechanical design experience supporting the development and production of hardware products.Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D solid and surface modeling, complex assemblies, configuration management, and production-quality 2D drawings.Strong command of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5, including tolerance stack-up analysis.Hands-on experience with structural, thermal, and airflow analysis using SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent engineering tools.Demonstrated experience designing parts for injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal, die casting, and rapid prototyping.Experience with PDM and PLM systems, BOM management, revision control, and formal engineering change processes.Proven ability to take products through prototype, verification, tooling, pilot production, and volume manufacturing.Strong problem-solving, technical documentation, project-management, and cross-functional communication skills.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.Experience developing telecommunications, RF, networking, industrial electronics, or other ruggedized electronic products.Experience with electronics packaging, thermal management, ingress protection, environmental sealing, cable management, and serviceable enclosure design.Working knowledge of product qualification, agency certification, reliability testing, and environmental standards applicable to commercial electronic equipment.Experience with SolidWorks PDM, PDXpert, Microsoft Dynamics, KeyShot, SolidWorks Visualize, or comparable tools.Ability to create high-quality renderings and visualizations that communicate design concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.What Success Looks LikeMechanical designs meet performance, reliability, cost, schedule, and manufacturability targets.Design risks are identified early, supported by analysis and testing, and resolved before production release.Engineering documentation and product configurations remain accurate, complete, and controlled throughout the product lifecycle.Cross-functional teams and manufacturing partners receive clear, timely technical direction and support.Work LocationThis position is based in Richardson, Texas, and requires close collaboration with Wilson Connectivity's engineering and cross-functional teams.Ready to Join Us?If this role sounds like a fit, please fill out our quick 3-minute, mobile-friendly application.
