A well-established MEP consulting engineering firm with over four decades of experience delivering complex institutional projects across the Intermountain West. With a strong presence in Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming, they are now building their Salt Lake City office and need the right leader to own it. Project portfolio includes hospitals, research labs, federal facilities, K–12 campuses, and university buildings. Known for technical depth, long-term client relationships, and a culture where engineers do serious work.

Position Overview

This is an office-building role, not a seat-filling role. The firm is looking for a senior mechanical engineer who is ready to transition from contributor to leader — someone who can develop clients, build a team, drive revenue, and own the P&L of a new market from the ground up. You will have the backing of an established firm with the autonomy to shape the Salt Lake City presence from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the Salt Lake City office, including hiring, culture development, and P&L accountability
  • Serve as the firm's senior technical and market presence in the Utah region
  • Drive business development — cultivate relationships with owners, architects, and contractors
  • Lead pursuit strategy, proposal development, and executive-level client presentations
  • Provide senior design oversight on mechanical systems — HVAC, plumbing, piping, and controls
  • Own project scope, schedule, and budget from kickoff through construction administration
  • Oversee Revit 3D modeling, construction documents, and specifications
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 4-year engineering degree from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or actively pursuing licensure
  • Experience leading or managing a consulting engineering office or team
  • Deep expertise in institutional mechanical systems — healthcare, education, or government preferred
  • Demonstrated success in client management and business development
  • Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills — able to represent the firm at the client and owner level

Benefits and Compensation

  • Base salary: $150,000 – $220,000 depending on experience and licensure
  • Performance incentives tied to business development and office profitability
  • Medical, dental, and vision — 100% premium covered for the employee
  • 401(k) with company match
  • FSA and HSA options
  • Short-term and long-term disability plus life insurance — 100% employer paid
  • Parental leave and professional development support
  • Relocation assistance available
  • Flex schedule: 9-hour days Monday–Thursday, half-day Fridays
  • Paid holidays, monthly firm activities, and employee longevity rewards program
  • Referral and employee assistance programs

Why Work With Us

This is a rare opportunity to take real ownership of a market. You are not walking into a built-out office with a team already in place — you are building it. The firm has the reputation, the resources, and the project pipeline. They need someone with the vision and drive to plant a flag in Salt Lake City and grow it into something significant. If you have spent your career developing your craft and are ready to lead at a higher level, this is the right move.
